Norman William Branton Obituary

Norman William Branton 52, New Glasgow passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish after a long illness.

Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Norman William and Stella Elizabeth (LeBlanc) Branton. He graduated from St. Mary’s University with a double major in marketing and finance; which brought him to work for both Loblaws and Sobeys head offices.

Anyone who knew Norm, knew he was very passionate about a few things. His family, Max’s sports, his beloved Chicago Cubs and the endless debates with Max about who was the better Superhero; Captain America or Iron Man. Norm liked to have a lot of fun. Playing tricks on his nephew Matthew with Christmas presents in a box, in a box, in a box. He always made sure to be available to his family. Teaching Mark how to perfectly barbecue a steak and where to buy the best bacon. Go-karts at Atlantic Playland and hot wings competitions with Michael. Norm inherited his love of wood working from his father at a very young age. He would hammer away at projects early in the mornings; waking up both of his sisters, Heather and Marion. He also taught Max everything he knew and they built many projects together. Norm loved to tell stories of his parents to Kimberly to help keep their memories alive. He was so very proud of Max and it showed when he was coaching him in baseball and cheering him on from the stands when he played hockey. Norm was the type of person that when you were friends; you were friends for years. No amount of time or distance could change that.

Norm is survived by his wife of 15 years, Kathleen (Peters); son Max; New Glasgow; sister Heather, Dartmouth, nieces Jennifer (Derrick) Rudolph, Halifax, Amanda (James), Halifax, Kimberly (Andrew), Dartmouth, nephews Matthew, Sackville, Michael, Halifax and Mark (Skylar); Lawrencetown, great nieces Ava, Addison, Emma, Madelyn and great nephew Jackson.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Marion (Bill) Terrio.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 1- 5 pm in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13 at 11 am in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow.
