Ben Carson Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Benjamin (Ben) Douglas Carson of New Glasgow on September 23, 2024.

Born on Prince Edward Island on April 15, 1934, Ben was a talented athlete and through his youth travelled across the Island, and across Atlantic Canada, playing baseball and hockey.

After graduating from Acadia University in 1959, Ben began working for Consolidated-Bathurst Limited in New Brunswick, where he met his loving wife of 62 years Norma.

Ben moved to Nova Scotia with his family in 1967 to work for Scott Paper. He continued his passion for sports and was an active member of the Abercrombie Golf & County Club for many years, enjoying golf and curling. Ben watched and followed many professional sports, but most of all he enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren to play, and attended many games and tournaments as their biggest fan.

In their retirement years, Ben and Norma enjoyed spending winters in Florida and summers on PEI.

Ben was a true people person, who prided himself on knowing everyone’s name. He always had time to stop for a chat and was truly interested in every conversation.

Ben’s kind and loving spirit is proudly carried on by his wife, Norma; their children, Mark (Wanda) Carson, Paul (Bonnie) Carson and Nancy (Jeff) Johnson, grandchildren Danielle, David, Meghan and Matthew and great-grandchildren Elle, Penelope, Lily and Madelyn. He was predeceased by his parents George and Evelyn Carson.

To honor Ben’s memory, visitation and funeral will be held at H.W. Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow. Visitation is from 6pm-8pm on Monday, September 30, and funeral service on Tuesday, October 1 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Parkinson Canada to enable their on-going support of individuals and families impacted by Parkinson’s disease.
