William Duncan Cameron Obituary

William Duncan Cameron, 82, of Trafalgar, Nova Scotia, died on Friday, September 13, 2024 at the Halifax Infirmary surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Waltham, Mass, on March 12, 1942, he was the youngest son of the late Alex and Nellie Cameron (Gray) of Hopewell.

William and his loving wife, Winifred (Currie) enjoyed 56 years of laughter and many adventures together. Forever known as the Mayor of Camelot, William (or Bill, as he was known to those from Lakeview, and MT&T), was always willing to share his wisdom and tools. He had a strong passion for sailing and woodworking, and in later years loved being entertained by the music of family and friends while taking in the beauty of the lake.

He began his life long career with MT&T in 1969 in New Glasgow, moving to Truro and eventually to Halifax, holding such positions as Mobility Dealer Account Manager, and Administrator for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island Telephone Pioneers of Canada until his retirement in 1997. Throughout his career he enjoyed numerous opportunities to travel, met many people who became lifelong friends, and dedicated his time to playing the role of Santa Claus for terminally ill children for several years- a role he filled perfectly with his white beard and hearty laugh.

William was predeceased by his parents, brother Sandy, and sister-in-law Karen Currie. He is survived by his loving wife Winifred, daughters Alison Reaume (Neil), Heather Thomson (Ryan), grandchildren Veronica and Evan Reaume, and Liam and Jack Thomson, brother-in-law John Currie, sister-in-law Jean Cameron, nieces Jona and Meghan Currie, Andrea Cameron (Mike), nephews Richard and Stephen Cameron, and several great nieces, great nephew, and cousins.

The family would like to extend their eternal gratitude to Dr. Arian Gholami, Dr. Ameer Jarrar, Dr. Greg Knapp, Dr. Nadine Hewitt and the amazing staff on 8.4 of the Halifax Infirmary, as well as Dr. Deborah Pestell at the Hyperbaric Medicine Unit, Dr. Kate Scarth, Dr. Robyn Macfarlane, Dr. Peter Massaro, NP. Paul Cameron and the staff at The Lodge That Gives. Special thank you to neighborhood lifelines, Stan and Billy.

Visitation to be held at Angus Funeral Home, East River Road, New Glasgow on Thursday, September 19 from 2pm-4pm. Funeral Services to be held at First Presbyterian Church Hopewell on Friday, September 20 at 2pm with Rev. Bonnie Langille presiding. Reception to follow in the church hall. Graveside burial at Foxbrook Cemetery for family only.

Family flowers only please. Donations in William's memory may be made to First Presbyterian Church Hopewell, or The Lodge That Gives, 5826 South Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3H 1S6.
