Obituary of Stephen Wesley Cholmondeley

Please share a memory of Stephen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Stephen Wesley Cholmondeley age 71 of Thorburn. Dad passed away peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital, on July 6, 2024 surrounded by family. Dad was born in New Glasgow, the son of the late John and Matilda “Tilly” (Cooley) Cholmondeley. He spent his childhood between Thorburn and Sudbury Ontario, but Nova Scotia was always home and as such was a resident of Thorburn most of his adult life. Dad was an active member of the former St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Thorburn. He was a hard worker, having retired as a heavy equipment operator with the Department of transportation after 30 plus years of service. Dad was a volunteer fire fighter for many years with both Thorburn and Blue Mountain fire departments. But Dad's true joy came from times with family, he loved his family more than anything and could be found cheering us all on from the stands, giving rides on the scooter or having a deep discussion on what ever topic you choose. Dad will be greatly missed and forever remembered by Mum, his soulmate and loving wife of 46 years, Isabel (Fraser), children Myra (Leandre) Benoit Riverview NB, Matthew (Kelly O’Brien) Cholmondeley, Thorburn, Christopher (Crystal) Cholmondeley, Mooseriver, Kimberley (Clint MacKay), Westville, and Adam (Francis MacDonald), Blue Mountain, 7 grandchildren, who were his pride and joy Abigail, Jarett, Savannah, Dylan, Blake, Carson and Alex. Sister, Debbie (Dave) Grant and brother David, sister-ins law Gail Cholmondeley and Becky (Bill) Chace, and Brother in law Jim (Maureen) Fraser and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his in laws, George and Helen Fraser, granddaughter Mia MacKay, and brother Don and nieces and nephews James, Crystal and George Fraser. We would like to thank Dr. Ali and the staff of the Aberdeen Palliative Care unit for the care and support they provided Dad during his final weeks. In the words of Dad… “Don’t take any wooden nickels”. The visitation will be held, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm Friday July 12th at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held on Saturday July 13th at 11am in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with John Reeves officiating. Burial with be in the Thorburn Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in Dad’s memory to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit or the I.W.K would be appreciated.
