Obituary of Bruce Lorne McFadden
Please share a memory of Bruce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bruce Lorne McFadden, 74, of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, passed away on June 17, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He is now resting peacefully in Heaven, praising his Saviour.
Bruce was born on July 14, 1949, to Harold and Charlotte McFadden in Truro, Nova Scotia. At the age of 7, Bruce moved to Sarnia, ON, where he lived with his mom, three brothers, and sister.
Following graduation from S.C.I.T.S., Bruce married his high school sweetheart Virginia (nee de Kant) in Sarnia on January 23, 1971. They went on to have two children, Laurie and Christina. Bruce worked for Fiberglass for five years before beginning a 40-year career as an appliance repair technician and owning his own Maytag showroom.
In June 1983, in their Scarborough apartment, Bruce, Virginia, Laurie, and Christina were led to the Lord by Pastor Gregory. Bruce began faithfully attending Grace Baptist Church of Scarborough and had a burden to see his family saved.
In 2021, Bruce retired and enjoyed time under the Blue Water Bridge watching the boats while drinking coffee and eating French fries, as well as visiting his grandchildren, and spending time with his daughters. During this time, the Lord laid on Bruce’s heart a burden to help small churches. Bruce and Virginia moved back to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, where Bruce was able to help a local church (Moser River). Here he was able to make an impact and fall in love with these wonderful people.
Bruce’s favourite pastimes reflected his love for all things sports. Whether watching hockey and baseball, playing golf with friends, or fishing, Bruce loved to spend his time outdoors.
Bruce was predeceased by Harold, Charlotte, John, and Eric. He is survived by Virginia, his wife of 53 years. Beloved father to Laurie (David) and Christina (Scott). Cherished grandfather to Nathaniel (Ingrid), Benjamin, Abigail (Jonathan), Aaron (Tabitha), Alana (Nathaniel), Alyshia, Ava, and Amelia; and great-grandfather to Mason, Lucas, and Felicity. Dear brother to the late John (2023), the late Eric (2013), Robert, and Lisa. He will be dearly missed by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
We would like to express our gratitude to Pastor Ryggs and Bethel Baptist Church who surrounded the family with love and support during this difficult time. Thank you to Graceway Baptist Church of Sarnia and Pastor Cook for their love and many calls and texts. A special shoutout to the amazing Palliative care nurses and doctors at Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow.
Bruce’s favourite verse sums up his passion for the souls of people and to see them saved. Acts 4:12, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
The family will receive visitors from 1-2 P.M. on July 13 followed by a Celebration of Bruce’s life will be both held at Bethel Baptist Church, 1984 Temperance St. Westville, NS at 2:30 P.M.
