Obituary of Doug Wilcox
Please share a memory of Doug to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Lowell Douglas "Doug" Wilcox, 70, on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the Aberdeen Hospital with his wife Novena by his side. Doug was a kind and gentle soul to all who were lucky enough to have known him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Born in New Waterford on August 17, 1953 he was one of seven children of the late Bernie and Mary Elizabeth “Lish” (MacPherson) Wilcox.
Doug worked for 40 years at Michelin, starting right out of high school. In Doug’s early years he joined Militia and played many sports, including hockey and soccer, and was proud to play on the soccer provincial team that was honored last summer by the New Waterford Sports Hall of Fame. He loved a good round of golf, enjoyed tarbish, and for many years bowled with the Michelin Retiree bowling team. He especially loved to cheer on his favorite team the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He always liked to keep busy puttering around fixing whatever needed his attention. He was an avid gardener and was meticulous about his beautifully kept yard. He fought so hard for four years because he immensely enjoyed spending time with his pride and joy, his only grandchild, Novalea.
Doug is survived by his wife of 49 years Novena Inez (McKay), daughter Melanie (Shaun) Burchell, and the light of his life, his granddaughter Novalea. He will be dearly missed by siblings Richie (Janet), Cheryl (John), Judy (Nipper), Karen (Frank), Danny (Janet). Also left to mourn are brother-in-law Wayne (Patricia), sister-in-law Glenda (Arthur), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by brother Marty “Oggie” and Brother-in-law Joey.
There will be no visitation as per Doug’s wishes. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of H.W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King Street, New Glasgow, NS. A grave-side service will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery at 2 pm Saturday, June 22nd. On-line condolences to the family can be expressed at www.angusfuneralhomes.com
