Donna Jean Blackie (Patterson), 70, passed away as a result of a tragic automobile accident on May 05, 2024. Donna loved life and was filled with joy and kindness. She touched the lives of everyone she met. Donna was born, August 02, 1953, in New Glasgow, N.S. Her mother claimed there was a “clap of thunder” immediately following Donna’s entry into the world. Donna graduated from Stellarton High School in 1972 and started employment at Sobeys Head Office in the Payroll Department. Donna remained a loyal employee for 36 years and remained close friends with her original two Payroll colleagues Brenda Carr and Dorothy MacKay. Following her retirement in 2008, she and Fred moved to their ocean front home in Port Bickerton. September 21, 1974, Donna married the love of her life Frederick Wayne Blackie. Together they adopted a child, Tracey Adele Blackie and were blessed with a beautiful granddaughter, Sara Conway. They were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Donna was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Marcella Patterson. She is survived by brothers Doug Riverview, N.B., Jack (Claudia) Summerside, P.E.I., Harold (Diann) New Glasgow, N.S. and sister Carole (Ray) MacDonald, Bible Hill. N.S. Donna shared the love of a large extended family including brothers-in-law Cyril (Pat) Blackie, Sid (Eva) MacIsaac, Kevin MacIsaac, sisters-in-law Cheryl Graham and Ernestine Butler and many special nieces, nephews, and close cousins. Fred and Donna spent many happy winters in their home away from home in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida making new friends and many wonderful memories. Donna loved to travel taking trips to Las Vegas, New York, and shopping trips to Bangor. Donna had a zest for life, was an authentic, kind, and fun-loving person with a contagious laugh and smile. She will live in our memories forever. Memorial service and celebration of life will take place at H. W. Angus Funeral Home, 256 King Street New Glasgow on June 20th at 2P.M. with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating, a reception will follow in the funeral home , burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Merigomish. The family will receive visitors from 12 until the time of the service at 2 P.M.
