As a fellow "Red Hatter", Donna found a "Red Hatter Husband" ball cap for Ron to wear whenever he "sat in" on one of our gatherings. She was always great fun.
Donna also was very proud of her community and a wonderful supporter of the Port Bickerton Lighthouse. You could always count on her to lend a helping hand.

Donna had a way of making you feel like you were the only person in the world that was important. She spent so much time at our house. Or I would be at their house. She loved life and she loved her family and friends. My heart breaks for Fred, Tracey, and Sara. Carol and Sonny were so important to her, she loved your kids. To the Blackie and Patterson families We offer our deepest sympathy, hugs and prayers. She is with Paula and Michael and protecting us all with her smile and hugs. I loved Donna , and will miss our visits, chats, and her sense of humour. RIP my friend. Don and Ardie

When I think of the expression “ Enjoy each day as if it’s your last” I think of how Donna lived. She did that and she was just so much fun to be around. I remember the time she helped Eva, Mona , Kim and I with our Bust A Move Fund raiser. I remember her JOY at each and everyone of our family fun days and girls weekends at her place. I enjoyed listening and seeing pics of her and Fred and their funny stories when they were away down south all those yrs . They both so enjoyed that. I am so grateful they showed up at my surprise birthday last yr as it added for fun and Joy. We got to have lunch with Donna and her sister Carol a month or so ago and got to listen to how much fun they had with their New York visit. She will be missed but forever in our hearts .

Dear Donna, we met almost 4 years ago and saw you most every week thereafter. There's an empty space that will never be replaced but you are always remembered. Donna and Fred, we only met you in person once and so glad we made the trip. We had so much fun playing the game SkipBo that we bought it when we got home. It wasn't the game though that made it so much fun, it was spending time being with you both. You will forever remain in our hearts. We love you both. Doris & Dennis (Port Stanley, On)

Buddy and I loved Donna from the first time we met her at Ben Eion Beach many years ago. She and Fred were very young, and just newly married, and were so obviously head over heels in love. We had so much fun camping with them that first time, and loved every time they visited in the years that followed. Donna and Fred visited me just a few months ago when they were in Glace Bay for a concert. I enjoyed their company so much and was looking forward to their next visit. My heart is broken for Fred and the rest of the family. Donna was such a beautiful and kind person; so full of joy and laughter. My love and condolences to Fred and the family.

I’m truly heartbroken over losing such a kind, funny, and genuine aunt. I will cherish the many childhood memories I have of holidays spent at your house and cottage visits. I can feel her hugs, kiss on my cheek, and her voice saying, “Oh, Fred,” when he’d say something inappropriate. She loved with all her heart and was truly the best of the best. We’ll miss and love her forever. We were lucky to have had her in our lives, and I have no doubt she’s watching us now, a glass of wine in hand, toes in the sand, sending all her love and wishing us strength and happiness in the days to come. Love and hugs from all of us.

Donna and I were best friends in our younger years growing up on MacKay Street in Stellarton. Way back then, the best way to describe Donna was a little “sprite”. The description of a “sprite” is ethereal playful and mischievous. The giggling that would follow after she played a trick on someone was infectious. More often then not I got blames because no one would believe that tiny sweet innocent child was capable of such trickery.
Donna did not grow into the fun filled, kind, caring women she was in later life but was that way from childhood.
Then life happens. Donna met Fred Blackie, the man that was destined to be her husband. My married took me away from Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada. Over the years, except for two visits to Port Bickerton and the chance meeting at Sams Restaurant, I lost touch with Donna. That was my loss.
The loss now is with her family because they have truly lost a remarkable lady. You are in my thoughts.
