Calvin Roy Fraser, age 87, of Garden of Eden, Pictou County passed away on February 4, 2024 in the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow. Born November 10, 1936 in Garden of Eden he was a son of the late John James and Barbara Jane (Inglis) Fraser. Calvin is survived by his wife Mary (Stewart), Garden of Eden; son John Andrew, Garden of Eden; daughter Susan "Susie" Fraser, Bible Hill; sister Dorothy Chisholm, Riverton; nieces and nephews Joyce Chisholm, Donna (Bryce) Thompson, Ritchie (Heather) MacInnis, Royce (Kevin) McInnis, Gary (Kathy) Greene, Sheri Greene, Darla (Ricky) MacKeil; brother-in -law John (Marianne) Stewart and grand and great grand nieces and nephews. Calvin was pre-deceased by sisters Jessie (Walter) McInnis, Joyce in infancy, brothers John and Andrew, sister-in-law Betty (Calvin) Greene and brother-in-law Arnold Chisholm. Calvin grew up in the Garden of Eden overlooking the lake. He worked a short time on the railway and with the Department of Lands and Forests before going to Halifax to work with the Department of Highways. He worked in locations throughout Nova Scotia until his retirement in 1994. Calvin moved back to the Garden of Eden in 1978 and started blueberry and Christmas tree farming. Since then Calvin worked with his son John to clear land and expand the farm to the size it is today. Calvin loved the outdoors. He enjoyed skidooing, camping, fishing, canoeing, boating and waterskiing. While living in Halifax he was a leader with the Bedford Boy Scouts. Calvin always had a camera with him and enjoyed taking and sharing pictures, especially of wildlife. In later years he enjoyed genealogy and family history. Calvin was always proud of his vegetable garden. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15 form 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, February 16 with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Garden of Eden Cemetery at a later date.
