EVELYN JACK PICTOU, NS Evelyn Doreen Jack, aged 78, passed peacefully on December 4, 2023 at the Maritime Oddfellows Home in Pictou, NS. Born on June 28, 1945 in New Glasgow to the late Wallace and Cora “Dolly” (Hudson) Jack of East River St. Mary’s, she was the youngest of nine children. Evelyn was predeceased by cherished sisters Phyllis Taylor, Vivian Hillier, and Muriel “Jackie” McManaman; and beloved brothers Milford “Buster,” Robert “Bobby,” and Bryce. She leaves behind her only child, Cindy Larson Urquhart, whom she loved immensely; granddaughter Morgan Claffey; grandson Rowan Larson; and great-granddaughter Harley Lankester, who brought her so much joy. Evelyn is also survived by cherished sisters Margaret “Peggy” Fraser and Maxine Archibald; sister-in-law Angie Jack. Evelyn also had many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Evelyn grew up in East River St. Mary’s and attended East Pictou High School, then moved to Ontario. She went to Algonquin College in Ottawa where she met her husband, Dale Urquhart. Evelyn studied to be a nurse aide and later became a lab technician. She and Dale bonded over their love of music. Dale was a fiddle player and Evelyn loved to sing and dance. She later learned to play guitar. Evelyn longed to be back in Nova Scotia and closer to her family, so she and Dale with their daughter Cindy moved to Westville to begin a new life. She worked for Kirk’s Pharmacy in Stellarton and then studied to be a pharmacy technician, later going to work in the pharmacy at the Aberdeen Hospital. Evelyn made friends easily and continued to share her love of music, hosting many gatherings with friends, family, and other musicians over the years. One of her passions was Bluegrass music and going to festivals all over the Maritimes. In later years she made many trips to Millertown, Newfoundland, and decided to make the community her home for a few years. She loved the people and culture, and made many friendships while living there. Evelyn made her way back to Nova Scotia and settled in Brookfield to be closer to her family. She loved to go fishing, camping, and spend time with her grandchildren. She also loved antiques and collectables. A beautiful, charming, loving, and most importantly a forgiving person, she will be missed dearly. There will be no visitation or service at this time. Cremation has taken place and a family committal service will be held at a future date at Valley View Cemetery, East River St. Mary’s. Donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to the Valley View Cemetery in East River St. Mary’s or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to HW Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
