Obituary of Faye Barbara Sobey
Please share a memory of Faye to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Faye Barbara (Naugle) Sobey, June 17, 1930 – October 28, 2023, beloved wife of David F. Sobey
Faye died on October 28, 2023 surrounded by her family. Faye was predeceased by her husband, David F. Sobey, her mother, Marion MacDonald Harrison; her stepfather George Harrison; and her brother Donald Naugle.
Faye leaves behind her daughter Janis Sobey-Hames (Christopher) and son Paul D. Sobey (Marsha); grandchildren: Jennifer, Joanne, Lisa, Sarah, Jonathan, David, Candace, Olivia, Emma and Ian; great grandchildren Marcus, Milo, Jackson, Lilly, Charlotte, Peyton, Evelyn, Leah, Rockwell, Ella, Oliver, Annabelle, Vivian, Eden, James, Ada, Jordan, Wilder and two nephews, Trevor Naugle and Eric Naugle.
Faye Sobey was born in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia. She attended Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax before enrolling at Dalhousie University. It was there in 1950 that she met David on the steps of the library. They fell in love and were married on June 2, 1953 one month after Faye received her Bachelor of Science degree. And while a rewarding career in scientific research was afforded her, the opportunity to raise a family with her husband David was her true life’s calling.
While raising her family Faye was very active in Trinity United Church, teaching Sunday School and CGIT. She volunteered with the Aberdeen Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and was a Lionette in the New Glasgow Lions Club. Faye was an active skier, swimmer and sailing enthusiast. The New Year’s holiday became a traditional family ski vacation. Faye became an accomplished painter and many of her works are now cherished and on display in the homes of her children and grandchildren. Faye and David traveled the world and their adventures always included many sojourns to food retailers to assess emerging trends in the grocery industry.
A devoted wife, loving mother and an adoring grandmother and great grandmother, Faye was always happiest at home surrounded by family and friends.
The family will hold a private celebration of life in Faye’s honour with committal in the Abercrombie Cemetery.
