Obituary of Helen Melissa Ward

Eureka ; Helen Melissa Ward age 108 of the Valley View Villa ,Riverton and formerly of Eureka passed away on Tuesday October 10th, 2023 in Valley View Villa . Born in McLellan’s Mountain, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Cora (Fulmore) MacDonald. Helen was a longtime resident of Eureka until 2005. She was a member of St. Columba United Church, Hopewell and the former Wesley United Church ,Eureka where she involved in the Sunday School and other positions within the church. Helen was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She and her sister Gertie enjoyed their trips to Florida and Halifax to the casino. Helen was well known for her baking skills which she liked to share with family and friends. Surviving are her son John (Alice) Gillespie of Pictou, daughter Melissa (Rodger) Noel of Cole Harbour , stepsons ; Kenny (Sharon) Ward of Westville ,Timmy (Carol) Ward of Dartmouth and Andy (Wendy) Ward of Churchville, She loved her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend Audrey MacGillivray. She was predeceased by her first husband G. Whitfield Gillespie ,her second husband Arthur H. Ward ,her sister Gertrude MacDonald and brother Leslie MacDonald . The family will receive visitors on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 P.M. from the St. Columba United Church , Hopewell with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating . Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to the Valley View Villa recreation fund, St. Columba United Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
