I met Helen and her sister Gertie about fifteen years ago and played many games of bridge. Both ladies were such a joy to be around and also a great inspiration. We all enjoyed them and their wisdom and their sense of humour. Condolences to the family and all those who loved them. Linda MacDonald

I had the great pleasure of interviewing Helen and Gertie for The News back in 2015 and I do mean it was a great pleasure. The photo no longer appears with the story but I am including a link to the story in case it is of interest to any family members.

Helen became a close friend at the Bridge table along with her sister Gertie. I can count on one hand the few Sunday evening games we missed up until Helen turned 105 and her sister 103. Gerties eyes failed her and had to give it up. Helen wouldn't play without Gertie. They were both sharp as tacks.
For me it was going trout fishing with them and that's where Helen thougt me how to cast. I didn't care if caught any fish, I just tried to see how far I could get that line out. We had lots of laughs over the years. Great memories and I'm glad she is at peace.

Melissa and John, please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your mother. I have many wonderful memories of going to birthday parties for Melissa. Helen always made sure we had fun and lots of games to play with the finale being the birthday cake and seeing who would be lucky enough to get served a piece of cake with a nickel or dime carefully wrapped in wax paper and hidden in the serving. Helen’s life was a long life well lived.
Sincerely
Nancy (MacDonald) Samson.

I remember Helen growing up when Edna had the bake shop on Provost Street and I think Helen baked for it. My mother the late Katheryn Brown used to work with Edna on some days. The baking was always very good there and missed it when it was gone. Sincere Sympathy from Sheila Chisholm.

Sometimes it's hard not to wish for one more day, one more word, one more chance to say goodbye, but you should rest assured that you all were such a joy to Helen; she was immensely proud of all her family. Your mom was a wonderful woman, full of strength and goodness. It was a privilege to have known her. We shared many stories, many laughs and many home made pizzas. I enjoyed every moment I spent with her. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.

I first met Helen approximately one year ago at Valley View Villa. She was a cousin to my good friend Sondra Lank and also her roommate.
We often spent visiting time eating homemade cookies, store bought cookies, All Dressed Chips followed with a great chilled Pepsi!
We exchanged chatter about the Ward and Lank families and some were stories that just could not leave the room.
There was a lot of country music playing from the TV with the 3 of us trying to be the rock stars we thought we were. The 3 senior singers at The Triple V. Sometimes, we closed the door as not to disturb the other residents and certainly not to have the wonderful staff come to put a halt to the afternoon shenanigans.
Helen was a super duper lady, ready and willing to do just about anything. She had a kind heart, a happy spirit, always with a big smile once you entered the room.
She will be dearly missed by myself and many others who knew her.
