I want to express my condolences to Ray’s family, most of whom I have not had the pleasure of meeting, my relationship with Ray has always been in connection to his chosen career as an optometrist. I feel it should be noted that Ray was a very professional and caring practitioner, well liked by his patients and well respected by his fellow practitioners and other members of the health care professions. In addition to contributing to the welfare of his patients he also gave back to the profession, he served on committees and was president of the provincial association and he thus played an active role in the evolvement of the profession. His contributions to discussions were respected, his counsel always seemed wise, not to say that we all always agreed with him. When we sought to disagree he ensured that we were well grounded in our decisions. For these things I want to thank Ray and I regret that I did not personally convey my thanks to him.

Whenever Ray was working I knew my day would be busy as a pre-tester. Although those were the days that I dreaded the most at 8:30am (mainly because I knew I would be sweating and have 2500+ steps before noon), they were also my favourite. I could pick his brain with anything that came into the office and I would have a stack of sticky notes by the end of the day! I would knock on his door and Ray; always eager to teach (and tell stories), would immediately gesture for me to come in and have a seat. I’m sure I could find pictures that he drew for me to explain to me what a retinal detachment was!!!

I once made Ray a rum cake. When I asked my mum what he thought of it she said “I have good news and bad news” and I was instantly horrified. Reading the nervous look on my face she said “good news is he loved it, bad news is that he said there wasn’t enough of it!” I laughed and remember feeling SO relieved. I remember telling Ray that story and with his eyes wide at first he laughed and went on to tell me just how much he enjoyed it. I will miss his laughter so so much ❤️

It was an honour to work for Ray, he always made me feel like he valued my contributions to the practice. He was a great Optometrist who cared about his patients, a wonderful boss who treated his staff with respect and a good friend who will be missed. As Mitch said at today’s service, he was a legend. His passing will leave a huge void in the lives of all of us who were lucky enough to know him. My sincere condolences to Diane, Charlotte, Haley, Mitchell and their family.

My sincerest Condolences to you Diane and the entire Wagg family.
I just heard about Ray's passing today. As a former Kinsmen Club Member in the 80's I can attest that Ray was certainly a well-respected and community leader. I had also had occasion to know the Diane and the Wagg family, as they were very caring towards everyone. Originally from Toronto I lived and spent the 80's in Nova Scotia and then moved back in 1991. I'm semi-retired and living in the Niagara Region now. Although it's been dozens of years, there are so many fond memories of my peers in the Kinsmen Club and especially Ray (and his family). He'll be forever remembered. Rest in Peace.

Diane and I have known each other from the time I was born and we consider ourselves part of each others' family. Hence, I have known Ray almost from the time he and Diane became a couple. From our very first meeting my husband Ron and I knew Ray was one of the good ones. His friendly, welcoming manner, his hilarious sense of humor, his fun loving personality and his dedication to Diane (and later his children and grandchildren) was second to none. Ray lit up every room he entered. Although we don't live in New Glasgow, we have been there enough to know that he was a very professional, well liked Doctor of Optometry and a pillar of his community generously giving of his time and means. I could write a novel highlighting Ray's wonderful attributes and although we will miss him terribly, we also know heaven has gained an extraordinary angel.

We were so saddened to hear of Ray’s sudden passing so soon after his diagnosis. It was only a few weeks ago we had been emailing to work out a time for the four of us to get together.
Ray was an incredible guy, a loyal friend and a huge asset to the profession we shared.
I feel fortunate that we were accepted into the same class at Waterloo and that both of you became a part of our lives.
While we didn’t see each other regularly, the awareness of our friendship was always present.

Our sincere condolences to Diane and all the family! We remember well when Ray and Diane moved to New Glasgow and were our first tenants. Elmer helped Ray and John find a place to open up their practice and encouraged Ray to join Kinsmen. He was so proud of his children and we talked of our children at our many visits to the office over the 40 plus years we have known Ray and Diane. We will always remember his smiling face. Hugs to the family.

Condolences to all the family. Ray was a kind man whom I valued as a professional but more so as a friend.

Ray had a lot of friends at the Y and gave us some pretty fun & funky music suggestions for Cycle class. His smile was magnetic and charming. He will be missed.

Sending Ray’s family my deepest condolences. He was my optometrist for many years and we had many great conversations. He was such a wonderful person who I don’t believe I ever saw without that wonderful smile he always had. I’m so sorry for your loss. Hopefully all your wonderful memories will help ease some of your grief.

Ray was always the life of the kin party, with glass of wine in hand. He worked hard for his family and community and his love for Diane and his family was an inspiration to many. He knew how to make people feel welcomed and included in any event, fundraiser, meeting and/or gathering.
My sincere condolences to Diane and his family. Although his life cut short, it was a life lived well and made an impression on many
