Obituary of Miriam Anne Sears
Please share a memory of Miriam to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Miriam Anne (Thompson) Sears of Plymouth passed away at the Aberdeen hospital on
September 5, 2023, surrounded by the love and support of family and friends. She was 89 years
old.
Miriam was born on November 28, 1933, in Mulgrave, Nova Scotia to Gibbons and Mary
(MacFarlane) Thompson and was blessed to be part of a beautiful family. She was the eldest
daughter in a family of 7 brothers and 3 sisters, including Ronald (Anne), James (Ann), Leo
(Sarah), Jack (Ruth), Joseph (Sharon), Gerry, Lillian (Geordie), Minnie (Bob), Camilla (Charlie)
and Leonard (Paula).
In 1960, Miriam married Jim, the love of her life and raised three wonderful children: Michael
(Halifax), Matthew (Laurie) (Greenwood), and Lisa (Gordon) (Calgary). Additionally, Margaret
Walsh, Elizabeth Cameron, and Darlene Wallace are cherished members of her family. She is
the proud grandmother of Kyle (Brittany), Cameron (Beka), Natasha (John), Liam (Cynthia),
Riley, Hope (Braedon), Brianna (Kurtis), Mariah (Kurtis), Erica (Jacob), and great-grandmother of
Sawyer and Levi. Miriam also considered caregiver Gloria Fraser a member of the family.
Miriam was predeceased by her parents, brothers Ronald, James, Joseph and Gerry, brother-inlaw,
Bob, and husband, Jim.
Miriam worked at Maritime Tel and Tel/Bel Aliant for over thirty years, was a member of the
CWL, volunteered in many church ministries, and was a faithful parishioner at Lourdes, St.
Gregory’s, St. Anne’s, and Holy Name. She was a dedicated member with the Pioneers
volunteer organization. Throughout her life Miriam was a super-fan of all things her husband
and children were involved with, attending many Highland games, sporting events, and musical
performances throughout the province and beyond. She never passed up an opportunity to go
shopping with the “Gillis Girls”, and was well-known for her keen fashion sense, especially
when a good deal could be found. Miriam enjoyed travelling and golfing in her retirement years
as well as cultivating and nurturing many friendships over a cup of tea on the front porch and in
the kitchen.
Family, friends, and faith were Miriam’s priorities, and her kindness and compassion allowed
her to find the good in everyone and everything.
Miriam was indebted to the support provided over the years by medical staff, physicians, and
specialists, and to the exceptional services provided by the VON, especially Crystal.
Funeral arrangements are through the H.W Angus Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 2-4pm
and 6-8pm on Friday, September 8 with the funeral mass celebrated on Saturday, September 9
at 11am at Holy Name parish in Westville. Interment will follow at St. Ann’s cemetery in
Thorburn. A reception will be held at the Plymouth Fire Hall at 5pm once Miriam’s brother-inlaw,
Bob, is laid to rest.
.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the Aberdeen hospital palliative care society, the
Pictou County food bank, or a charity of your choice. In Miriam’s memory, please reach out to
your loved ones and hold them close. Miriam truly believed that the strength of relationships
with family and friends provided the power to endure life’s hardest moments.
