Obituary of Peggy Williams
Please share a memory of Peggy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
We are saddened to announce the passing of our mom, nanny, big nanny, sister, aunt, and friend Peggy. Mom was the life of the party wherever she was, her laugh was so infectious. Her energy, sense of humor and smile would brighten any room. Her passing will be felt by all who knew her.
Mom was born in 1949 to Emmett and Elizabeth Berrigan and was the 7th of 12 children. She grew up in Halifax and went to Saint Pat’s High School. She went on to graduate from Vocational School with her Secretary and Bookkeeping certificate.
In 1969 Mom married her soulmate, the love of her life, our dad, Jim. They married in Calgary, Alberta. 2 years later they decided to move back to Nova Scotia and eventually settled in Stellarton which has been home for 50 years.
Mom and Dad grew their family to 3 daughters: Denise (special son-in-law Darren) Turnbull-Falmouth, Angela-Bedford, Elizabeth-Truro; 7 grandchildren, Taylor (Dylan), Mackenzie, Keigan, Aiden, Liam, Anna, Sarah, and 2 beautiful great granddaughters Brielle and Leah. Mom and Dad instilled in us the importance of family. We are who we are for the love and lessons Mom and Dad have given us.
Mom worked at R. Fulton Electric in Plymouth for approximately 20 years before starting her own business, Stellar Lighting in Stellarton. Mom volunteered with the Ladies Auxiliary at the Stellarton Fire Department for many years and made many lasting friendships there.
Mom loved to shop and for many years would go on bus trips to Maine in the fall to do her Christmas shopping with friends. Mom and her sisters regularly got together for quality sister time. Mom loved a good game of cards, whether it be poker, crib, or spoons. Mom was the life of the party and could out-party all of us!!
Mom is survived by Jim, her soulmate of 54 years, her daughters, and their families; her brothers and sisters: Pat (Patricia), Oliver (Madeline), Lila (Ray) MacDonald, Frank, Jimmy (Mary), Kathleen Morris, Colleen (Alan) DeWinter, sister-in-law Gail and sister-in-law Dianna, sister-in-law Nancy (Clary) Shaw, brother-in-law Gordon (Mary), many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Emmett and Elizabeth Berrigan, In laws Art and Edith Williams, sisters Mary and Eleanor, brothers Emmett and Ralph, sister-in-law Cheryl, and brothers-in-law Spin and Bob.
Mom would want us all to laugh and share stories of happier moments and not dwell on the sadness we feel with her passing. In keeping with her wishes there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 6th, from 2:30-4:30 pm at the Stellarton Fire Hall, where all who knew and loved mom are welcome to attend, raise a glass (her drink of choice was rum!) and share a story. A family service will occur prior to the celebration of life.
Donations in mom’s honor can be made to the Lodge that Gives, Canadian Cancer Society.
