Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kouyas,George- On Thursday, July 27, 2023, George Kouyas, a beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend, passed away at the age of 84, and Heaven gained an angel. We are deeply saddened by this loss, and he will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he touched. George was born in Vrosthena, Greece, a son of the late Spyros and Aggeliki(Antonopolous)Kouyas. on Dec 6, 1938, and began his journey in a small village, where he had very little. Through hard work and determination, he found his way to Nova Scotia, where he made his mark in Stellarton with his business, Sam's Pizza, renowned for its delicious pizzas and lively night club scene. Aside from running the restaurant, George spent time at "The Building," a place where he would make wine, cook, read, write, and enjoy the company of his family and friends. During the summers, he and his wife, Dina, spent most of their days working on their garden. In addition to his culinary talents, George was a jack-of-all trades; he knew a little bit about everything. He had the ability to fix anything or make anything, and he remained active with a hammer in his hand until almost the very end. Anyone who knew George knew family held immense importance in his life; he was always there, offering valuable advice, guidance, and support whenever anyone sought his help. George always held onto his roots and cherished the opportunity to visit Greece as frequently as possible. Fortunately, he had the chance to go back last year. Throughout the past three and a half years, George fought valiantly against his illness, earning the reputation of a man with nine lives. His wife, son, daughters, and close friends provided unwavering support during this challenging time. A special thank you goes to the VON team and the night & day home support for their assistance these past 5 months. Also thank you to the nurses and doctors who took care of him on our countless visits to the hospital. George's memory will be cherished by his beloved Wife Dina, as well as his adoring children: Angela (Con) Proestos, Australia; Spyro Kouyas, Stellarton; Yota (Craig) Gerrior, Granton; and Maria (Jason) Walsh, Stellarton; additionally, George will be admired by his grandsons: Leonidas, George, Lucas, Michael, and Nathan. Their love and fond memories will keep his spirit alive in their hearts. He was predeceased by brothers; Argiri Kouyas, Stavros Cougias, Panagiotis Kouyas, Demetre (Jim) Kouyas and a brother in infancy, sisters; Alice (Kouyas) Xiros and Georgia (Kouyas) Pyrovolos. His remains will rest at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton for visiting from 12pm to 2pm Monday August 7, 2023 from where Funeral services will be held at 2pm with Father Peter Maropoulos presiding. Burial will take place in Greece at a later date. “What you leave behind is not what you engraved in stone monuments but what is woven into the lives of others”-Pericles angusfuneralhomes.com
