Obituary of Cody Matthew Heighton

Please share a memory of Cody to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Heighton, Cody Matthew- It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Cody Matthew Heighton, announce his unexpected passing at home on July 20th, 2023, at the age of 28. Cody is survived by parents Henry and Darbe Heighton; siblings Joseph (Kate); Stephanie (Zach); Vanessa; Brittany (Lindsey); Jordan (Shelby); chosen sister Kirsten; six nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Cody was predeceased by paternal grandparents Henry and Virginia Heighton, maternal grandparents Fred and Evelyn Thompson, and cousin Mike Lawless. On January 12, 1995, our close-knit family of seven welcomed a beautiful blonde-haired baby boy into our lives. Immediately, we were charmed by Cody’s bright smile, gentle personality, and those big brown eyes. Growing up in Stellarton, Cody attended school locally and became involved with many sports; hitting the ice at the ripe age of four. Whether it was baseball, basketball, hockey, or rugby, Cody’s athletic ability was undeniable. He had a natural gift for pitching especially. This combined with his calm nature, made him a true force to be reckoned with on the diamond. His humble personality always shone through as he left the field, even after a big win; although his very proud family always did the bragging for him. Cody’s love for sports carried into all aspects of his life. He enjoyed weightlifting at the gym and was involved locally with the Special Olympics as a coach next to his father. Cody graduated from Northumberland Regional High School and enrolled at the NSCC where he completed an Electrical Mechanical Technician diploma in 2016. However, he was truly a jack of many trades, developing a passion for landscaping and carpentry as he got older. He was always up to something, whether it was installing a new light for his sister, or building a brand-new addition to his parents deck so his big family could gather together for family bbqs and celebrations. His compassion and empathy for others were unwavering. Animals and kids especially were always drawn to his gentle and kind nature. He loved his nieces and nephews very much. Uncle Cody was always up for an adventure which often included teaching his nephews how to play ball alongside his brother Jordan. Cody was so proud to be a Heighton and truly loved his big family. He made his love known with the biggest bear hugs. We will miss our baby boy very much, but we will carry our love for him and his memory in our hearts forever. A viewing will be held at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 2 pm with Fr. Macdonald Ibeh presiding. Burial to follow in the Parish Cemetery. A reception will take place at the Sister Catherine Steele Center following the burial. In lieu of flowers, we know Cody would have wanted to help others, so we encourage donations to support a mental health charity of your choice in Cody’s honor. angusfuneralhomes.com “There are special people in our lives that never leave us, even after they are gone.”
