Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MacLeod, Evelyn May (Reeves) February 17, 1931 – June 14, 2023. Evelyn was born in Richmond, Cumberland County to Harold and Ella (Taylor) Reeves. She had 9 siblings and is survived by 3 of them (Kenneth, Clifford and Malcolm). She loved learning and school was the highlight of her day. In the early 1950s she moved to New Glasgow to become a telephone operator where she met the love of her life, Don MacLeod, at her uncle's house while Don was doing some plumbing work. They married in 1953 and their marriage remained strong for 64 years. They had three children: Lonny, Kevin and Karen. Evelyn loved children and gave lots of joy to the neighbourhood kids with trips to Melmerby beach, climbing trees and baking cookies. Her love of children spilled beyond her own family as she was like a mother to Pam and grandmother to John, Meghan and James. She played board games to pass away many a winter night to the delight of many neighbourhood children. She believed strongly in God and community service as she was an elder of 1st Presbyterian Church in New Glasgow, a Cub Leader and a member of IODE. She loved cross country skiing, swimming, walking and gardening. Evelyn's love for her children grew with each generation. Alexandra (Cox) and Taylor loved their Gramma and spent many blissful summers with her and Grandpa. Her great grandchildren Killian and Madeline will miss her deep love and fun. She will be sorely missed by all who were so strongly connected to her. Her strength and determination in adversity inspired all of us and helped us deal with life’s daily challenges. Thank you so much Mum for all you did for so many of us. You were one amazing woman. God bless you. Cremation has taken place and a private gravesite service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
