Obituary of Troy Owen Martin

Please share a memory of Troy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that the family of Troy Owen Martin, 48 years young, share the news of his passing on May 27, 2023 in Kitimat, British Columbia. On that day the world lost an incredible human and heaven gained the most special angel. Born on May 1, 1975, Troy led a short but very full life. For the majority of his life, unless away for work, Troy was a proud citizen of Stellarton (Stellarock). He was a lover of many things, especially the great outdoors. The woods and the water were part of his soul. From his beloved hunting camp in Lovat to his cherished family cottage on Caribou Island, and everywhere in between and beyond, his love of nature was obvious and contagious. Hunting, fishing, foraging for seafood, campfires, frisbee, beach combing, landscaping and camping were just some of the activities that fueled him. Troy was also a lover of the culinary world and never missed a chance to whip something up for his family and friends. He could prepare the finest gourmet meals or make something out of nothing and both would be equally delicious. Inspired by his father’s love of cooking, in 1998 Troy attended culinary school in Port Hawkesbury. A skill that served him, and those he loved, well. When his interests changed and the West came calling, Troy turned his sights to a new career. He was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (Scaffold) Local 83 and Local 1325. He worked from one end of the country to the other with people he would refer to not as his coworkers, but as his brothers and sisters. Troy was the first son of his loving parents Owen and Carol (Humphreys) Martin. Two years later, he was given his cherished brother and best friend Darren. Also left to mourn is his maternal grandmother, Keddy Humphreys whom he often referred to as "the biggest part of his heart". Never a day went by that they didn't talk, a bond that could never be broken. His niece Brieanna Martin (Jake McInnis) and his two nephews Owen and William were also among his many blessings. Troy also leaves behind "the love of his life", his fiancé Heather MacKenzie, and their plans to marry this coming October. A multitude of Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends are also devastated by this great loss. The remains will be resting at HC MacQuarrie Funeral Home in Stellarton. Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 10 from 2-4 and 7-9. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 11th at 2:00 pm from First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton. Cremation to follow. Burial will take place at Heatherdale Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Donations can be made to the Pictou County Food Bank or Heart & Stroke Foundation. For those who wish to honor Troy's memory, we ask that you take the time to do a few of the things that made Troy the person he was. Do something kind for someone, enjoy some time in nature and tell your family and friends how much they mean to you. Rest easy Troy. The world was a better place with you in it. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
