Dawn and I would like to send condolences to Marion and to all of Mel's friends and family.
I first met Mel when we worked together at Esso Home Comfort. He was a pleasure to work with, always cooperative and professional, and he treated both his own equipment and his customer's properties with meticulous care. He was an honest and hard-working man, and I always felt that he enjoyed his work and did his best every day. I began to get to know Mel on a personal level after Dawn and I purchased a cottage near Mel's place in Pictou Landing. We spent time together at yard sales and cook-outs, and occasionally when the cottage needed a little TLC, and the neighbours pitched in. Mel was always willing to help out, either by lending a hand or a tool, or even a little advice. While Mel was a private man, he was always friendly and welcoming when we dropped by, even when he was busy with his own work. It was a privilege to know him, and he will be missed.
Again, our condolences to everyone who feels his loss.

Doug and Frances met Mel & Marion in 1971 and we have been best of friends ever since. We quickly learned who Mel was- a guy that was there for you any time day or night .Always working hard around his property and his job and still had time to help his friends. In 1975 us four decided that we would build a house beside each other and so we did. If anyone could survive clearing the lot after a long days work and then deal with contractors ourselves - well Mel was there to console us and always had a laugh as well. Another thing about Mel- he was really hateful toward snakes- came home from work one night and Mel was grooming his lawn and running with the mower- hollered at him what's up-I am gonna kill this snake if it takes me all night - I think he got it as he knew I was scared too . In closing we have so many fond memories -so lets just say you will forever be in our hearts until we all meet again - Loved you Mel Fran & Doug xoxo

I have not seen Mel for many years, but remember him well, during our teen years in a world that seemed much less complicated than now. My condolences to his family and friends. I am not surprised that he garnered love and respect, over a life well-lived. I think he likely had those qualities from birth.

I was so sorry to hear of Mel’s passing. It is , however , a blessing that he did not suffer. Mel took exceptional care of his property, one would never find it unmoved or not trimmed. He worked hard and was active and mobile. He kept his lane clear in the winter, out early ,he put us neighbours to shame.
He was out going…always chatting with all of us as we passed, ever interested in what was going on. A great neighbour , he will be sorely missed.
