Edward Raymond MacCallum – 73, Stellarton. With heavy hearts, love and treasured memories, the family of Edward Raymond MacCallum announce his passing on Thursday, April 27, 2023. Born in Stellarton, Pictou County he was a son of the late Edward and late Bertha (Fitzgerald) MacCallum. Dad worked hard for most of his life. He was a proud Press Foreman for over three decades at the Evening News, followed by Transcontinental, and The Advocate. He was passionate about sports. He played baseball as a young man and spent many summer evenings and weekends as an umpire. He loved curling whether he was on the ice or watching as a spectator. In his later years, Dad became an avid golfer. He enjoyed his early morning tee times and the beauty of a carefully manicured golf course. A proud grandfather, he could be found at any baseball field or hockey rink cheering on his grandchildren as their biggest fan. Dad was a brave volunteer fire fighter with the Stellarton Fire Department for many years and today he remains an honorary member. His pride in community was evident in the way he would tell stories about living in the Red Row, the Brown Row, and the Asphalt. Edward will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Barbara (nee MacKean). He is survived by his son Mark (Carrie); daughter Erin (Steve); grandchildren Reade, Cameron, Max, Jack, Savanna, and Zoe; great-grandchildren Mason and Jaxon; brother Buzz (Margaret); sister Grace (Duncan) MacKay; nephews Gerald and Jason; nieces Lisa, Sarah, and Lauren. Special thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Aberdeen Hospital for their compassion and care. Visitation service will be held from 6-8 pm Tuesday May 2, 2023 the at H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, 18 Acadia Avenue, Stellarton. A graveside service will be held at the Brookside Cemetery, East River Road, New Glasgow at 1 p.m., Wednesday May 3, 2023, followed by a celebration of Edward’s life at the Stellarton Fire Hall from 2-4 p.m. angusfuneralhomes.com Weep not for me though I have gone Into that gentle night Grieve if you will, but not for long Upon my soul’s sweet flight I am at peace, my soul’s at rest There is no need for tears For with your love I was so blessed For all those many years There is no pain, I suffer not The fear is now all gone Put now these things out of your thoughts In your memory I live on Remember not my fight for breath Remember not the strife Please do not dwell upon my death But celebrate my life
