We want to express our condolences to the family on the loss of Mildred. She was a wonderful neighbour to us (our parents) and continued to keep up with Dad even after she had left the neighbourhood. We will always remember her as a talented, smart lady, who went white water rafting for the first time in her 70s (we think it was) -- we admired her spirit. Sympathies to the family.

It was a pleasure to know and work with Mildred - she taught many of us so much during our time together at Frank H MacDonald School. She will be missed. My condolences to her family.

In 1949-50 I taught with Mildred in Sherbrooke. It was my first year teaching and my classroom was in what is now the Temperence Hall. Mildred's class was in the school across the yard. She was like a mother to me and I have treasured our friendship over the years.
This is a photo of myself, Mildred and toddler Jimmy standing beside the bus that Harold drove between Sherbrooke and New Glasgow.
My sincere sympathy to Jimmy, Glenda, Susan and John.

time of loss. We have many fond memories of time we spent with Mildred and Herold while living in Sherbrooke.
I still have a favorite casserole recipe of Mildred's that I obtained when we had dinner with them one evening - this
became one of our favorite at Christmas each year - it was always called Mildred's cassserole. Sending our love to you all, Ruth and Glenn Ross

"Curious" is a word that best describes my relationship with Mildred.
I would often take my Grandmother, Laura Fraser to visit Mildred while on trips home over the years. Mildred was always so curious about my travels and I would tell her stories to which she always had so many questions, so many “oohs and ahhs" and always bright smiles. She was funny and kind and I always enjoyed our visits.
There are two pictures attached here each with a little story - I know Mildred would be delighted that I shared them.
Picture 1:
Mildred, Grandma and I were in a Rickshaw, stuck in traffic, in the middle of Times Square in Manhattan.
Gram and “Millie” came to NYC to visit me in Dec of 2010. We went to the Rockette’s Xmas show at Carnegie Hall. After the show, we had dinner reservations a few Avenues over. It was a little too far to walk, so at first, we tried to hail a cab. The streets were gridlocked (Xmas in NY), nothing was moving, & there were no cabs available in sight. So I asked them “Are you guys up for a Rick-Shaw ride?”.
As with everything else on that trip, there was a resounding “Yes!” which matched their spirit of adventure that weekend.
It was quite a time actually getting the three of us up and into the RickShaw (another story), but we made it. The Rickshaw driver started to weave us through the traffic of Broadway Avenue, across 7th and 6th Avenue via 42nd Street to our restaurant - arguably the busiest, brightest, loudest and wildest part of the city.
The two of them were beside themselves during the ride - you couldn’t wipe the smiles off their face or get them to say a word through their laughter. The RickShaw was very tippy, horns were honking, and as we were weaving through the gridlock, I very clearly remember Mildred saying something to the effect -> “LAURA! IF WE DIE RIGHT NOW WE HAVE LIVED!!” ... to which Grandma couldn’t muster a reply - she could only keep laughing and squeeze our hands tighter.
We made it safely and they didn’t stop talking about that ride for years to come.
Picture 2
This picture was taken on the same trip, from the rooftop of my apartment at a little pre-show “party” that I had invited some of my friends over to meet these crazy ladies from Nova Scotia. There was a small group of us - one friend from Chicago, one friend from San Francisco and two friends local to NYC.
In this picture, Mildred and Laura were looking over the side of the 30 + story building and gasping about the NYC skyline. Mildred said loud enough that everyone could hear “LAURA - ISN’T THAT THE LIMIT?”
Those four words, for whatever reason, invoked laughter amongst all of us.
No one had heard the expression before but everyone thought it was perfect.
“ISN’T THAT THE LIMIT?”, from that day forward made its way back to San Fran, Chicago and within the friend network in NYC. It was for years later, used in jokes, Facebook posts, text messages and it sort of weaved its way into adjoining friendship groups. I have no idea if it is still making the rounds, but If you ever hear the saying “ISN’t THAT THE LIMIT?” on a TV show or in some random USA city in future, you’ll know it was Mildred who coined it. She created her own little urban legend.
You will be dearly missed Mildred. My condolences to her entire family and my regrets I was unable to attend the funeral. I certainly said my private goodbyes to her in spirit. I’m so happy to have known her.

Aunt Millie Mae as I always called her leaves a deep hole in my heart, I was so happy when she choose going to Valley View for her last few years. Mildred and mom were so very close as sisters and as best friends, being next door to each other at the villa was a very real comfort to me. There are so many great times we all had on our shopping road trips...too
many to mention but Mildred always added that extra joke, support and sparkle to our evenings in our PJ's! Millie will be sadly missed but always in my heart!

Mildred was a wonderful and kind person. She was a close and beloved friend to my mother - Phyllis (Roode) Wark - throughout their lives. My Mom always talked fondly about childhood excursions to Sunny Brae to visit Mildred, her sisters, and Aunt Martha. I always looked forward to Mildred's visits to our home when I was growing up. She was both interesting - with great stories about teaching and places lived (I remember tales of Labrador in particular) - as well as interested - in my academics and how school was going. I am sorry for your loss, Mildred will be greatly missed. I hope family memories bring you comfort and peace.

Prior to meeting her, I had not met a teacher with her genuine concern for students. I do believe she inspired each of us to do our best. I know she taught me that I could do better and I did.
I do not believe I could never address her as Mildred, as she requested, I have too much respect for her as a teacher and a person.
She was the best of the best! Bonnie Manson
