Obituary of Barbara Vivienne Wood

Barbara Vivienne Wood age 94, passed away peacefully at the Aberdeen Hospital in Palliative Care on December 14, 2022, after a brief stay in Glen Haven Manor in New Glasgow. She remained in her home at Eden Lake up to September 2022. Born January 15, 1928 in East River St. Mary’s to John and Martha (Dickson) Cameron. In 1947 she married the love of her life John Wood of Eden Lake and together raised three children and lived in Eden Lake all their lives. She worked at McKean’s Flower Shop in New Glasgow for many years from where she retired. She was a proud member of the Blair Presbyterian Church in Garden of Eden where she was the organist for many years. She belonged to the Canadian Red Cross, WIMS. She loved to do crossword puzzles, bird watch, cook, knit, sew, make quilts as well as supported the Terry Fox Run. She is survived by her children Jack (Linda) Wood, New Glasgow; Jim (Debbie) Wood, Eden Lake; Brenda (Fred Rhyno), MacPherson’s Mills; grandchildren Darryl (Sarah) Wood, New Glasgow; Derek (Suzanne) Wood, Waterloo, Ontario; Craig (Ryan) Wood, Windsor, Ontario; Cindy (Justin) Wood, Los Angeles, California; Blair (Shannon) Yerxa, Calgary, Alberta; and 9 great-grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her husband John in 2020; sisters Laura in 1981 and Sara in 2010; brothers Cammie in 2000 and Johnny in 1997. We would like to extend our thanks to Carolyn Wier who helped us to allow Mum to stay in her own home after our Dad passed away in September 2020. We would like to also thank Glen Haven Manor; the Emergency Department and the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson and H.W. Angus Funeral Home for their compassion and care. Her remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home on Monday, December 19 from 10:30 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Eden Cemetery.
