I. Joyce Dean (1933 – 2022) Irene Joyce Delilah Dean, age 88, of Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche (formerly of Riverton), passed away on February 26, 2022, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in Lower Caledonia on September 12, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Lonas and Mabel (Palmer) George. Joyce was a lifelong resident of Riverton, surrounded by neighbouring family and friends. She began her career at the Unemployment and Insurance office in New Glasgow and worked there until she wanted to dedicate all of her time to raising her family. When her children were in their teens Mom felt an urge to return to work and found a welcoming opportunity as the accountant for Dale Motors Nissan. Joyce loved her work and was fond of the many people she had met over the years and reluctantly retired after decades of devoted service. Mom had a love for collecting antiques. Her weekends frequently involved stopping at yard sales and attending local auctions. Every nook and cranny of her house was filled with her treasures; cream pitchers, crystal, china cups and saucers and beloved Hummel figurines, just to name a few. Joyce’s passion drew her back to the workforce at Garrett’s by the Bridge in New Glasgow where she delighted in meeting new people, selling antiques and Paderno cookware, and attending auctions. When she finally retired for the last time, she was well into her 80s. Joyce is survived by her sons: Paul (Lori), Durham; Mark, Riverton; daughter, Karla (Lawrence) Chisholm, Scotch Hill; grandchildren: Taylor, Brent, Jenna, Sydney and Devon. Besides her parents, Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Donald Leander Dean; son in infancy, Jason; sister, Opal Jenkins; brother, Sterling George. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A heart felt thank you to special friend Marion Feltmate. Marion became Mom’s devoted caregiver, friend and travelling companion before her time at Willow Lodge. Marion provided Mom with a balance of kindness, comfort and dignity, with a generous sprinkling of humour along with way. Marion will always hold a special place in our hearts. Joyce’s family would also like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the entire staff of Willow Lodge for their compassion, excellent care and ongoing support. Mom was a member of the Willow Lodge family just shy of seven years and their steadfast dedication to her well-being will always be remembered. Honoring Joyce’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family burial will take place in the spring. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
