Sandra Wheller posted a condolence
Tuesday, May 21, 2024
Dear John,
My condolences and apologies for a very delayed response, I lost touch with your Mom and Dad sometime after Scott passed. Your Mom sent me a letter and his obituary which was so sad. As you probably know, your Mom sent a special Christmas Card for many, many years and we had a few visits in New Glasgow and once out west here when they were visiting your Dad’s Sister in Nanaimo. They didn’t feel comfortable driving in Vancouver so we met at a MacDonald’s in Tswawassen, near the Ferry terminal.
I see your Mom has passed and I’m sorry to learn about Sandra as well.
Sandra came out for a work related trip and we had dinner together on my front porch.
All these are treasured memories along with you lending me your car when I drove mine in the ditch a long time ago,
I send my warmest regards and condolences to you, Darlene and the rest of the family.
Sandy Wheller

My sincerest sympathy in Johnnie's passing. I was one of those lucky children who grew up waiting to hear Santa's bells on Christmas Eve....it is a wonderful memory from my childhood. Even as we grew too old to appreciate Santa's visits, he still came to see my mother and father on Christmas Eve. A cherished tradition in our family, created by a man with a ready smile and a huge heart. He will be missed.

John was a presence at the Kirk in New Glasgow for as long as I can remember…he was the Santa we waited for with such excitement as a child at our Sunday School concerts (although I didn’t know it at the time) and a familiar friendly face in the choir room as I went from Junior to intermediate to Senior choir. A born story teller who brightened every room he entered , he was a joy to talk too. He has been missed in the choir room for many years now but I always got a wave from him in his seat in the congregation sometime during the service. I remember the many concerts we put on over the years and John was game to dawn any outfit required for the program … many a laughs were had when he was part of the cast. My deepest heartfelt condolences to you, Betty and family. He will always be remembered. Betty (Chisholm) Murphy

Very saddened to read this tonight. Mr Lewis was a wonderful kind man and he instilled that in his family. One of my first encounters with him was when I had just moved into my house and didn't know anyone in the neighborhood and he and his son plowed my driveway. He always had a smile and a friendly wave and he was just a kind and happy man. He will be missed by many and we would like to offer our sympathy and condolences to his wife and family.

My condolences to Johns family...I met John when he would deliver to the Westville Sobeys store in 1969.He was always so cheerful.Back in those days the trucks were all unloaded by hand. When I enrolled in the Nova Scotia Eastern of Technology,I approached John about hitching a ride to Sydney on the Sobeys Truck. Many a Monday morning my Dad would drop me off at 5am and I would jump in Johns truck and head east. On Fridays if I made it to Sobeys Prince St by noon ,he would get me back to the county. We had great conversations during those trips. He will be missed.
