Balodis, Peter (former Lieutenant 374 F/L Chisholm Squadron) Sept. 12, 1990 - Aug. 16, 2021 It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Peter Balodis, of Thunder Bay, ON (formerly Marshdale, NS) on August 16, 2021 at the age of 30 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Marcis & Mara, sister Anna (Greg), brother Erik (Megan) and sister Emma (Jaret), nephews Rowen, Emmett, Clark, Sawyer, Alex and Eddy as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Peter was predeceased by grandparents Ojars & Ruta Lucis, and Hugo & Dzintra Balodis. Peter attended Dr. W. A. McLeod Elementary School, West Pictou Consolidated School, and Northumberland Regional High School. He was a member of various school band programs, the Pictou District Honour Choir, and the 374 F/L Chisholm Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets; all of which had an enormous positive impact on his life. Peter graduated from 374 Sqn as Squadron Commander. He was a talented musician and Band Major and and he achieved his Glider Pilot’s license as a cadet. He continued on within the cadet organization, joining the Cadet Instructor Cadre. As a young adult, Peter pursued his love of aviation and obtained his commercial pilot’s license at Greenwood Flight Centre, NS. He absolutely loved every minute he spent in the air. On the ground, Peter took great pride in renovating his home, gardening, and modifying his Jeep. Peter enjoyed his travels to Latvia to visit his family’s ancestral home. He met various relatives there, who fondly remember his happy and joking nature. He loved to travel home to his family’s farm in Marshdale, NS, where he was always willing to lend a helping hand with whatever chore or project was happening at the moment. Peter’s family and friends will always remember his powerful hugs, his love of cooking (especially with onions), and his ability to easily befriend people of all ages and walks of life. His happy laugh would fill up any room he was in. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm, on Sept. 5, 2021 at the deCoste Centre, 99 Water St., Pictou, NS.
