Dear Natalie, David and Christine: This may be a little late but none the less heartfelt. I want to join with so many others who very rightly are celebrating the legacy left by your dad and expressing their deep sorrow at his passing. He was a very special man - and a one of a kind politician.
I got to know your dad so well when we came to Pictou County to open Frank H. MacDonald Elementary School - you remember it well, I am sure. As a brand new school and one that dared to do many things differently, it courted criticism, Don, I am proud to recall, was the only local politician who did not trade in gossip, innuendo and rumor when it came to the school.. Instead, whenever there was a query or a question he came into the school - saw for himself and asked whatever questions he needed to. Equally of importance, he never left the school without telling me exactly what he would be reporting back to any complainant. To this day, I value that level of openness and honesty - that integrity. This was the man I came to know and admire.
Don's passing will be a terrible loss to you all. However, I know that you will keep his memory alive in so many wonderful ways. Keep celebrating the amazing man that Donald Cameron was - and will be remembered as. You loved him dearly and that love will never die. Monica & Gerry Punke

Dear Natalie, David, Christine and your families,
I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the loss of both your mom and dad. I have such fond memories of our time together in Boston, all those many years ago. Don was not only Michael's boss, but a trusted friend. Michael and Don continued to keep in touch and when Michael passed away, your parents reached out to me often just to hi. They opened their home to my son, Johnathan and I a few years ago and I will always cherish the wonderful memories of that visit. They will be deeply missed.
Sending you my deepest sympathies.

Cameron family: None of you know me. although I think I baptized some Cameron kids in the mid 1970's in First Church, New Glasgow!
Our mutual friend, Rev. Ken MacLeod, has informed me of Donald's death, and I am still stunned, it following so soon after your Mom's. Please accept my sincere condolences. When I came to New Glasgow in 1972, I was only 3 years older than your Dad, and as a bachelor, I envied your parents for being the "ideal" couple, and so excited to be starting their family!
I greatly admired your Dad's willingness to enter into the political arena. I recall some conversations which indicated that involvement came with some very real and stressful ethical issues.
The legacy which both your parents have given you al is something you will cherish. You honour them by living their values and approaches to life. (I remember your Grandma Helen as a unique and strong woman!)
Rev. Ken mentionned your friendship with Audrey Cameron...please extend Joan's and my best regards to her. To have Audrey as a friend, is a great gift!
This preacher has gone on too long. Again, my prayers and best wishes as you continue in Donald and Rosemary's enviable footsteps.. (Rev. Dr..) Bob Cruickshank. Medicine Hat, AB.

To Don’s family we offer our sincere sympathy.
We first met Don & Rose in July 1970. One could say they got us settled in Egerton with Keith working on the farm. Their kindness and encouragement will never be forgotten. As time passed we had our families and moved from place to place but kept in touch from a distance. What I remember about Don was his drink of choice was always milk of course and if there was a home cooked sweet to go with it all the better. Rose was a great cook and most gracious host always willing to share recipes. I think of Rose every time I make the peanut butter chow mein noodle treats, I’m not sure what they are called but I am sure you will know the ones I mean.
Your beautiful written obituary describes Don’s life perfectly. A great man of integrity, loyalty, service to his community, province and country in an exemplary manner. He will be missed by many as you will miss him too. But you must be strong and have faith knowing both parents will be with you in spirit always.
We pray you will be granted courage, strength and peace as you face the days and months ahead.
Keith & Ann Wren.

The Cameron Family;
My heartfelt condolences on the sudden passing of your Dad , Grandfather & Brother. From my days in the Legislature as the MLA for Pictou West on the opposite team , to many hockey games on the same team , to a host of respectful political arguments ; I've not met a more sincere , dedicated or loyal Nova Scotian. I know how committed he was to his family ; as is so very apparent in that most wonderfully worded obituary that announced his passing. He was truly blessed with such a great family , as were you with this first class "farmboy". It can be readily acknowledged that he left his community & his Province a better place for his having been among us for his 74 years. He was among " the finest kind".

Dear Christine, David and Natalie:
While Merle and I aren't yet really acquainted with you each personally, we know how important you and your children have been to Don and Rosemary, and them to you. :We know through your parents and through your wonderful letter of tribute to them now that you have absorbed and inherited the finest of their qualities. Thank you for those words.
Over the past fifteen years of being friends and neighbors, it has been such a privilege to be their friends and to become aware of their very special qualities: kindness, generosity, humour, integrity, humility and both inner and outer beauty. Rosemary, a ,very talented, overly modest painter ; Don, a super fine and accomplished wood worker;.on top of all the positive changes they made by service to others They left the world a better place. We are so very sad for you, Christine, David, Natalie, your spouses and children. But grateful for your presence.

Mary K. and I extend sincere sympathy to Don’s and Rosemary’s family at this most difficult time. Mary K.’s friendship with Donnie goes back to East Pictou Rural High School and he was my Minister at the Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries. We often attended meetings and events together and he was the most apolitical of the 13 Ministers I served. He even tolerated my left of centre views and I always had great respect for him and liked him very much.
I recall going to a meeting in rural Cape Breton one evening and engaging in friendly arguments as we drove back in the wee hours of the morning, in part to keep ourselves awake. Years later when I lost my last election as NDP MLA for Pictou East who was the first person to call to cheer me up the morning after?...Donald Cameron! That’s the kind of guy he always was...RIP my friend.

To the Cameron Family,
I wanted to pass along my deepest sympathies on the loss of your father and to share a story of how I meet your parents over 10 years ago. My family and I were renting a condo at Land’s End, Sunset Beach, Florida and during one of our morning walks, we started a conversation with your Dad and another gentlemen, who was a friend of his. I had stopped to speak to them as your father looked so very familiar to me, but the ball hat and sunglasses didn’t allow me to have a full view and I could not place where I knew him from. I told him we were visiting from Nova Scotia and he asked immediately if it was our car that had the farm license plates in the parking lot. With that we engaged in further conversation about our home province and both our family businesses. It continued to nag me all day trying to figure out how I knew him and then I realized he was Don Cameron! The next day at the pool, I ran into your parents at which time I said to our Dad, “ I know who you are, you are the former Premier of our province” and with a shy smile he said “ yes I was, for a short period of time.” He introduced me to your lovely mother and I immediately could see the admiration and love between them. Over the course of the next ten days, I had a number of conversations with them both and felt like I had known them for years. The next year we returned to Land’s End and I once again saw your parents. Your Dad had invited me up to see their condo as we were looking for a place to rent in the future. Both he and your Mom were so hospitable and kind. Your father was extremely pleased with the work he had done in the office area and bathroom as he proudly took me for a tour. Our family rented their beautiful unit a number of times after this and loved their piece of paradise. We regularly go back to Land’s End but had not run into them over the last number of years; although I have thought of them often. When I heard the news about your Dad’s passing and then found out your Mom had passed earlier this year, I was shocked and saddened. They spoke so highly and fondly of their three children and grandchildren and the hurt of losing them must be overwhelming for all of you. I am a firm believer that you only grieve as deeply as you loved; one does not exist without the other. In the days, months and years to come that love will carry you through life. Although I knew them only very briefly, they were such kind, genuine and lovely people; the type of people that make a lasting impact. I feel very fortunate to have meet your parents and my thoughts are with all of you during this difficult time, Angela Manders-Godfrey

To Natalie, David and Christine; Bertha and I send our sincerest condolences to each of you and your families. We will miss Don and Rosemary a great deal. They were truly wonderful people, kind, thoughtful and gracious and both full of laughter and fun.
After 1993, Don and I always kept in touch and it seemed that while some time had gone by between visits or phone calls we would pick up the conversation like it was yesterday. Remarkable to me because though we had met in the midst of a serious political campaign, we forged a very good friendship that went on long after politics was over.
During Don's time as Premier, I stayed at your house so many times solely because Don didn't think the taxpayers should pay for me staying at the Heather Motel. We ate so many gas station sandwiches and drank skim milk on the road that Rosemary threatened to pack us a healthy lunch! And while on the road, Don drove that Silver grey Chev more than I did. I teased him that since he was the one who sold the limo, retired the driver, sold the provincial plane along with dispensing with free lunches, coffee and bottled water at government offices, he should drive the bus!
Don was a true progressive conservative and a great person to call a friend. I will miss him a great deal.

To Nathalie,David and Chrissie and all your families:
There are just no words to express my and Evelyn’s feelings about your dear mother and father’s passing...but I’m sure there are many thousands across the county, the province and indeed the country feeling the same way.As you know our friendship goes back a long way and deeply saddened and send along our condolences and sympathy to all of you.they were an inseparable team who complemented each other in many, many ways.Mainly their love and respect for on another, that shone through in all aspects of their lives.I do believe that a broken heart was very much part of Donald’s final days.
He was a straight arrow in politics and told it like it was, even though maybe not well received by some but was true to his beliefs which was his touchstone. It was an honor and Privilege to be a long time friend. He leaves a legacy that any one serving in public life at whatever level would be wise to emulate...he set a gold standard for sure.Over the years many of our private chats, not all about politics opinion in the kitchen at Kingshead with him and Rosemary will always be among my cherished memories of our friendship. In true Scottish Tradition I send along a ‘silent private bagpipe lament- Flowers of the Forrest ‘ to those memories.
With Heartfelt sympathy,
