I always admired Jeannie because of her kindness and concern for others. She was always at peace. Any time we met after my preschool days, she was happy to see me and I her. I always appreciated that she truly cared for me and walked at my speed. She was interested in my life and how things were going.I still remember her oatcakes too. During the preschool days she always included me in the activities. Anyone associated with Jeannie would have to be a better person. An angel has returned to Heaven

I was saddened to read of Jeanne's death. She had such a kind spirit and her love of children and nature knew no bounds. She was also a strong and determined woman, not afraid to challenge nor to share her own beliefs. She loved the farm and every child that came through her doors. There's a generation of folks that were raised on goat's milk and her kindness. Well done, thou good and faithful servant.

My condolences to the family of Jeanie. I will never forget my summers working for Jeanie and Kit and her famous Lamb that went to the vet college for diagnosis of her paralysis. She was outfitted with a cart and got around the farm with the rest of the bottle fed lambs. She was equally dedicated to her little humans in her daycare. Jeanie would leave no animal or human behind. A huge heart and deep determination got results others would have given up on. A wonderful lady and a life well lived.

My heart is broken to wake up and see this. I met Jeanne at the YMCA and became quick pals. She always would stop to chat whenever I came in! She had the purest heart and this will be such a loss to the community! I can almost guarantee she is on the other side joining the next spin class.
Thoughts to her family and friends during this time! She was a special one!

Jeanne was the most beautiful soul.
I feel like I belong to the lucky few who had the chance to experience such a wholesome preschool experience. I have many vivid memories of the days spent there, all wonderful. I remember being a very shy child, big time homebody. Jeanne's school was one of the very few places that I looked forward to going.
I still can not drive by her farm without a wash of memories from those pastoral times.
I can remember how deeply invested she was in the development and comfort of all of the children in her care.
Every day seemed to have a different lesson, and a different adventure.
Jeanne had an impressive way with children. She could easily communicate with young ones the way that many adults are challenged to. I can't articulate her tantrum resolution method, but I remember that she always found a way to get kids back on the happy path, and quick.
Jeanne taught us all about the natural world. So many nature walks, where Jeanne found a teachable moment in the tiniest details of the forest. Jeanne would highlight the magic and the beauty of the things in the woods that we often walk by without a second thought.
The barn visits were always a highlight. Kit had all of the answers for us kids, and he kept Jeanne on her toes with his wisecracks.
Kit put in so much barn time that I remember one of us asking Jeanne if Kit lived in the barn.
Over the years I had met many of the successive owners of that farm. I think that I am safe in saying that If the east river valley remembers that farm by one name, that name is Jeanne's school.
We are all blessed having known her, especially those who were taught by her.

I’m so sad to hear this also, we all loved Jeannie. She taught my three kids in preschool at her farm and they loved her so much. Last time I talked to her was in Bridgeville last summer she had walked around the river from her old homestead. ❤️ She will be missed.

I was so sorry to see this. I met Jeanne many years ago at the YMCA. She was dedicated to her health and wellness and could put many of the younger members to shame with her grueling workouts. I also used to see her walking everywhere to further enhance her fitness. We had many great chats over these years and I deeply admired her commitment to wellness. She was a kind and gentle soul. Deepest sympathies to the family.
