Please share a memory of Jerome to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jerome Kendall Turner 1951-2020 Jerome (Jerry) Turner died at home in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on Thursday, December 3, 2020. Jerry is survived by his children Joshua (Rhani) Gold Coast, Australia, Natasha, New Glasgow and their mother Edith (MacGregor)Turner, New Glasgow. He is also survived by his sister Wendy (Steven) Fesmire, Halifax, brother Richard, Halifax and numerous nephews and nieces. Jerry was predeceased by his parents George and Ruby Turner and brother George. Although born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Jerry spent his early years in Windsor, Nova Scotia. A world traveller, athlete and educator Jerry wove his passions and strengths into his adventures. Jerry was a lifelong learner having graduated from the University of New Brunswick (BA), Acadia University (BEd & MEd) and University of Alberta (PhD). He was an educator for the majority of his life and taught within Canada as well as internationally (Nigeria, Bhutan, Brazil, Zambia and Japan). Jerry’s athletic ability allowed him to combine his love for teaching with his love for coaching young adults. He was skilled in hockey, field hockey and soccer and passed on his expertise by coaching many of his students, while teaching, throughout the world. Jerry also was an exceptional dancer and participated in amateur performances as well as taught social dancing for many years in the communities in which he lived. Life took a drastic change for Jerry in 1999 when he was involved in a motor vehicle accident and suffered a major brain injury. He was able to recover somewhat but lost his ability to return to the activities he had so much enjoyed. Even though life served Jerry many difficulties during his final years, one thing that remained constant was his love for and pride in his children. He was always very patient and kind in nature and this quality made him an exceptional father. He would look forward to hearing of Josh’s travels and of life “down under” and always marveled when Josh would call as it sounded like he was sitting right beside him instead of being half way around the world. Natasha and Jerry shared a cemented father/daughter bond as they both enjoyed a similar sense of humor and laughter ensued when they would get together. Josh and Natasha are left with wonderful memories of their father. Cremation has taken place with a memorial to be held at a later date. For those wishing to honour Jerry’s memory, we ask that you show “acts of kindness” towards others in the coming days ahead.
