Obituary of Doris Jean Aikens

Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Aikens, Doris Jean- On Wednesday, October 7, Doris Jean Aikens gently passed into the arms of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, surrounded by the love of her family. Doris was the daughter of the late Frank and Eva Weeks. How do we put into words a lifetime of loving, caring and giving. We were blessed with our own Angel on earth, our precious mother, devoted wife, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She was an amazing cook and baker. Her scotch cookies, coconut cream pie, and strawberry pie are famous far and wide. She is also famous for all the family dinners at Mom’s! We could depend on her for everything all the time. Her prayers, encouragement, and limitless love never let us down. She ALWAYS put her family first and enjoyed them. She was a gentle spirit who embraced the role of wife, mother, and grandmother. The love she had for God and our father was such an example to us all. She loved Dad, her children, and her siblings who often referred to her lovingly as the Matriarch and mentor of the family. She was like a mother to her siblings. Mom had a heart of gold and never would say a bad word about anybody. She was honoured and loved and truly was a Proverbs 31 lady: Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her. (31: 28) She loved berry picking, nature, birds and flowers. She and Dad enjoyed sports together—the Montreal Canadians and the Toronto Blue Jays. But the love she had for her family surpassed them all. How wonderful and comforting it is to know she is rejoicing with loved ones gone before in Heaven. Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Mom and Dad memorized and quoted this scripture together for years and now we will be drawing our strength and comfort from this verse in the days that lie ahead. Doris is survived by her husband, the love of her life for almost 71 years, Mel Aikens, children: Carolyn (Melvin) Frosst, Linda (Bruce) DeYoung, John (Barb) Aikens, Alice (Kevin) Mattatall, Heather (Darryl) Arbuckle. She is also survived by her sister, Margie (James) Aikens; brothers, James Weeks, Ernie (Marjorie) Weeks. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Brian, Amanda Cochrane (Grandchild); sisters, Frances Dykens, Pearly Mae Weeks, an unborn baby; brothers, Donald Weeks and Frankie Weeks and sister-in-law, Marie Weeks.
