Christie, Robert (Bob) Even Kennedy- 74 passed away Thursday July 23, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, N.S. Robert was the son of Jack and Edith (Anderson) Christie. He was predeceased by brother John, sisters June Dorrington, Robena Arthur and brother-in-law John Dorrington. He is survived by brothers Stan and David; nieces: Deborah, Jacquelyn, Sandra (Kevin), Colleen, Nancy (Alfred), Anja (Dean); nephew: Don (Crystal), and several grand nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Helen Christie and brother-in-law Rev. David Arthur. He is also survived by his long-time friend Richard Kellock. Richard and his late wife Catherine were like family to Robert. Jack Kyte, a friend, shared the following: Robert was a true champion of the environment, originally as the technical advisor for Citizens Against Pollution and for many years as the Executive Director of the Pictou Harbour Environment Protection Project, part of Environment Canada’s Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP). His approach was collaborative, working with communities and businesses to find environmental solutions through partnerships for mutual gain. His knowledge of environmental stewardship was a blend of extensive scientific knowledge with a wise understanding of human behaviour. He was a trusted advisor, from forest harvesting certification, air emissions mitigation and wastewater treatment to river rehabilitation and sustainability. His work, at a local, regional and national levels made a difference in our world. Robert received awards for his stewardship work from the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce and from the Province of Nova Scotia. He was a valued member of the federal Expert Panel on Canadian pulp and paper environmental effects monitoring for several years. Robert would want us to say thank you to Doctor Jeans for the compassionate care he received from her over the years. We also want to thank the many VON nurses who gave dedicated care to Robert. In particular, we want to thank VON nurse Amy Pointon. Her wit was a great match for Robert’s. We also want to thank Robert’s nurses on Four South. Their kindness was appreciated so much. They brought sunshine to him every day. Cremation has taken place. A committal service will be held August 25th at 3 pm at Greenwood Cemetery, Pictou Landing, under the direction of H.W. Angus Funeral Homes. Robert’s friends are welcome to attend with family. Donations in memory of Robert may be made to a charity of your choice.
