So sorry to hear about Karleen's passing. Working with her brought a lot and fun laughter. She had a contagious laugh that could be heard everywhere and often brought fellow teachers together to find out what was so funny. Sure enough there would be a good story! Her sense of humour will always be remembered. Sincere condolences to all of her family at this very difficult time.

Forty-five years ago when I moved to Stellarton, Karlene was my grade 2 teacher. A few years later we moved into a house across the street from the Carrigan’s. For many years while Dave jr and I were good friends, I walked across the street & into their house like it was mine. And Karlene treated me with the same love & kindness (& discipline lol) she showed her own children. I have many happy memories of 36 Birch Hill Drive that make me smile and I’ll never, ever forget her laugh.
I’m glad to have gotten the chance to sit & talk with Karlene this past February. It was good to see her again. She was a wonderful person. My deepest condolences to you all.

Dear Rhonda :
We have not seen each other for many years but I have many great memories of growing up in Stellarton. I remember Karleen was lots of fun and during the years of CGIT she got the nickname of "Auto", because someone thought it was a good name for her because of the "car " in Karleen. I believe it was Marie Lorimer who came up with the name. I still called her that name every time I saw her and we would have a big laugh. I remember her playing with the Balmoral Girls Pipe Band too, but we were not members at the same time.
Please accept my deepest sympathy Rhonda. I hold you in my prayers as you journey through the difficult days ahead.
Sincerely :
Brenda MacKean - Barss

I first knew Karleen as “Mrs Carrigan.” She was my sister’s teacher, and took her class to Halifax to see the Moscow Circus. I was lucky to have her as my teacher, too, and I’m sure many of her students will remember her annual lunch at the Heather Hotel, with balloons tied to our chairs and for many, their first “fancy” outing. She also put money in our report cards!
I also knew Karleen as my dear friend Mark’s “Aunt Lala.” Mark adored his aunt, and she was a great help to him.
My sympathy to her family and all who loved her. May memories bring you comfort.
