Helen Esling 1929 – 2020 ESLING, Helen A. (nee Hooghe): Helen was born on February 25, 1929 and passed away peacefully on February 18, 2020, one week prior to her ninety-first birthday. At the time, she was a resident of Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. Helen is survived by her brother, Arthur Hooghe (Florence), three children, Gary (Lee), Alan (Terry), and Lori, two grandchildren, Heather Knowler (Shawn) and Ryan (Lita), and two great granddaughters, Anya Esling and Hunter Knowler. Helen was predeceased by her husband of sixty-eight years, Hubert, and her sister, Elvine Kelly. For many years, Helen worked and volunteered at Dr. W.A. MacLeod Consolidated School in Riverton. Helen was also a valued member of Christ Church (Anglican) in Stellarton, where she volunteered in several capacities, including ACW, Altar Guild, Parish Council, and other church functions. Helen’s creative ability shone through in craft related activities, including quilting, crocheting, knitting, sewing, and scrapbooking. Other interests included reading, traveling, ceramics, and baking. Helen’s greatest joy came from spending time with children, family, and friends. The family would like to extend sincerest thanks and appreciation for the care, kindness, empathy, and consideration exhibited to Helen and family by the doctors and staff of Glen Haven Manor. Cremation has taken place and internment and a graveside service for immediate family will take place at a future date.
