I did not know Maurina personally, but sure felt as if I did! I taught my students about Maurina and her son Jeremy and her courageous battle to have Jordan’s principle honoured. Maurina’s strength and resilience has inspired and taught hundreds of students to never give up and to use their voices to make change and stand up against injustice. Thank you, Maurina. Blessings and condolences to your family. With gratitude and warmth, Lisa Howell (Ottawa).

I remember being in the Sweat Lodge with Maurina. And I remember the stories we shared about working against injustices in the 70's and 80's. Many years, she worked to bring to light the injustices against Indigenous people and continued that fight for her son.
Like a Clan Mother, she made helped make the path for others to follow.
I will always remember how happy we were to see each other, whether it was at the IWK or in town or in her community.
I Pray for your Spirit journey. Go in peace. Yours was a life well lived.

In championing Jeremy and Jordan's Principal Maurina Beadle has provided kids with a path towards greater social justice and equity. Although I didn't know her I share her cause in helping these kids. I wanted to give my thanks to both her and her family. For all the people who made this woman as loving and as caring as she was, for all those who supported her in her efforts, I give my thanks. Wela'ln.

My first conversation with Maurina was by phone when she told me she was taking the Federal Government to court to make sure Jeremy and other children got the help they deserved under Jordan's Principle. The pictures were taken the day she was cross-examined but the government- Maurina was clear, calm and strong and there was no doubt Canada had met its match. Outside the hearing room, Maurina and the rest of us could hear community members drumming for her and after the hearing was done she went outside to join them. Not long after, in 2013, the Federal Court agreed with Maurina and ordered Canada to provide services under Jordan's Principle. Three years later, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal agreed with the Federal Court and ordered Canada to help all First Nations children by implementing Jordan's Principle. Thanks to Jordan, his family, Maurina, and other strong parents and advocates, over 250,000 services and products were provided to kids in need this past year. I will miss this strong, stubborn (but in the best way), and loving woman. She was justice and her spirit inspires me every day. My thoughts and prayers to her family, many friends and Pictou Landing First Nation. Maurina made a huge difference for kids!
