Obituary of Delthia Ann McLean
Please share a memory of Delthia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
McLean (McCormick) Delthia Ann, Green Hill, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2019. Born August 12, 1932, Delthia was the daughter of the late Alice (Boran) (McCormick )MacLeod and Delbert A. McCormick.
Delthia married the late George G. McLean in 1953. They spent most of their married life in their beloved Green Hill, where they raised their seven children.
Growing up as an only child herself, Delthia was very proud of her large family, which kept growing with the arrival of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "Grammy Green Hill" loved to be kept in the loop of all the activities and accomplishments of her family. She was a very skilled knitter, and her beautiful sweaters, mitts, scarves, hats and afghans were treasures to the recipients. Mom was also a great cook. We all looked forward to her "Sunday Dinners", when the dining room table would be filled to capacity for a delicious meal. She was also well known for her "melt in your mouth" baked goods, particularly pies, biscuits, scotch cookies, and "pork pies". Mom also loved to dance. To see Mom and Dad glide around a room together in an old fashioned waltz was to witness grace, beauty and love.
Delthia will be missed by her children and their families: Susan McLean, Michael (Carmen), Brian (Andrea), Stephanie (Joshua); John (Barbara), Rachael (Glen), Emily (Ryan),Sarah (Don); Shelley (David Cullen), Katie (Ian), John (Emma); Sherri (Cyril Duggan), Hilary, Patrick; David (Stacey), Rylee, Tatum; Paul (Jennifer), Bridget, Isaac; fourteen great-grandchildren: Eric, Charlotte, Olivia and Elliott Jones, Lydia and William Jones, Jacob and Lauren Mahoney, Logan and Felix Wadden, Grace and Nolan Hartt, Declan and Clara Brewster; sister-in-law, Ellen McLean, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Delthia was predeceased by her step-father, J. O. MacLeod, and a son, Peter Grant McLean.
Delthia worked for thirty two years as a secretary at West Pictou District High, from the opening of the school until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star #24.
Delthia’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Glen Haven Manor for the loving care and kindness bestowed upon Mom during her time there, and also for their kindness and compassion to us, especially during Mom’s final days. Special thanks also to Helen MacKay.
At Delthia’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A private committal service will be held at the Durham Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Delthia’s memory may be made to Green Hill- Alma United Church.
