Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elaine (Johnson) Vacheresse passed away on December 29, 2024 at the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, her home for the past two and a half years. She was 88 years old. Elaine was born in MacDougall’s Settlement, New Brunswick on August 10, 1936. She was the eldest daughter of the late Abbott and Sarah Jane (Jennie) Johnson. After high school, Elaine trained in Moncton to become a Registered Nurse. She built many friendships during this time that would last a lifetime. Following training, she and a few of her classmates went to Montreal to work at the Montreal General and then at the Children’s Hospital. After a few years, a couple of them bought a car and drove across country to Vancouver where they immediately got nursing jobs. Later, Elaine returned to the Maritimes, where she got her Public Health at Dalhousie University. She then worked for the VON in Moncton before finally taking a job with the VON in New Glasgow. This is where she met and married her husband, Joe Vacheresse. They lived in Riverton until his passing in 2003. Together they raised two daughters, Ann and Carol. Elaine stayed at home with her girls while they were young. She returned to nursing once the girls got older, working casual at the Aberdeen Hospital, transporting patients to Halifax and working in the dialysis department. She ended her career at the Valley View Villa. People meant the world to Elaine and she treasured her relationship with everyone in her family. She was fiercely loyal. Elaine is survived by her two daughters: Ann (Thad) Dunn, Hopewell and Carol (Stan) Goodick, Middle Sackville and her grandchildren; Druhan and Alauryn Dunn and Matthew and Eric Goodick. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Poulin, Ontario and her brothers; Winston (Marie) Johnson, Brian (Leslie) Johnson, and Jim (Anne) Johnson all of Moncton along with many treasured nieces and nephews and two aunts, Bessie Cote and Georgie Hughes. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Vacheresse as well as a number of well-loved brothers and sisters in law. Special thanks to the staff on Whispering Tides at the Glen Haven Manor. Your love and support given to her during her time there will never be forgotten. Donations can be made in her memory to the Glen Haven Manor, VON or a charity of your choice.
