Obituary of Donald Grant

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Don's gone. He would leave it at that, but more must be said about Papa, the Man, the Myth, and the Legend. Descriptives for Donnie would fill a book, and they would include: charismatic, unpredictable, entertaining, kind, generous, and loving. Donnie loved us all with his whole heart, his wife, Trudy, his "chillens", his "grandchillens", his brothers and sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends, as well as passengers aboard his various buses. He took great pride in his ability to drive anything with wheels, but nothing compared to his years behind the wheel of a bus, both with Acadian Lines and Chignecto-Central Regional School Board. He had a lasting impact on many of his precious students. They were all so special. He enjoyed handing out treats and giving pet names to many. John Donald, or Satch, enjoyed a game of crib, following the Leafs ( this HAS to be the year!), playing pool and golf with his buddies, especially the 19th hole. He loved to sing, with his family and solo, and dance. He was a nature lover, especially animals and birds, and found peace at the lake ( Grant's, of course!) or wharf, dipping a line. In recognition of this, a private family burial will take place in Riverview Cemetery, Merigomish, on the first day of fishing season. There will be no visitation, but as a proud North-Ender, a celebration of Donnie's life will be held at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Glasgow, on Thursday, December 5, at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow the Mass. Sincere thanks to the medical professionals who helped on this journey, especially Dr. Gerald MacKean, from the Vascular Surgery Clinic, Halifax, and the nurses at Glen Haven Manor. Words cannot express the love and heartfelt appreciation from all family members to the staff at Glen Haven, especially those on River Glen. Your kindness, caring, compassion and respect were immeasurable and will be held forever in our hearts. Your support was unbelievable, going well beyond any expectations. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glen Haven's programming for residents. I'm gonna miss that smile. I'm gonna miss you my friend. Even though it hurts the way it ended up, I'd do it all again. So play it sweet in heaven, 'Cause that's right where you want to be. I'm not cryin' 'cause I feel so sorry for you, I'm cryin' for me. ...Toby Keith
