It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Wilbur Ross MacLean aged 82. Ross was a beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle who left us peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital on November 21, 2024.
Ross was a kind, caring, and selfless man who acted as a caretaker for our extended family. Over his life, he also gave his time to the community by volunteering with the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department, and by managing the books for St. Columba United Church in Hopewell.
After marrying his beloved wife Bette on November 9, 1963, he lived and worked in Montreal, Calgary, New Glasgow, Truro, Inverness, and Stewiacke. He retired from the NSLC as a manager.
He built and enjoyed spending time at two cottages in his life, only giving up going to the cottage for most of the summer when it became too hard to do the work of keeping it up himself.
He enjoyed the quiet of fishing and hunting. Hunting trips with his brother Ed were important to him for the time they spent together.
Ross is survived by his wife Elizabeth Anne ("Bette"), his son Mark, his sister Lela (Eldred) Fraser, his brother Ed (Cindy) MacLean, his nieces Kathleen Fraser, Lori Fraser, and Megan MacLean,, Joyce Blackwood, Carol Isherwood and Ann Blackwood Hewitt, his nephews Jamie Fraser and Ronnie Blackwood and his cousin Verda (Frank)Jackson.
Ross was predeceased by his parents, Alver and Jeanette (Blackwood) MacLean, Eureka, NS, and by his brother Arthur (Skipper) Blackwood, Medicine Hat, AB
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 25, 2024 in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton.
Burial will follow in the MacLean Cemetery, Hopewell.
