Obituary of Glenn Andrew MacGillivray
Please share a memory of Glenn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Glenn Andrew MacGillivray was named after his grandfather Andrew MacKenzie, a CNR engineer. Glenn passed on the name “Andrew” to his oldest son. He was especially close to his grandmother Ada who worked at Sobey’s head office and his great grandmother Edith, a one room schoolteacher.
Glenn would feel fulfilled in being called a firearm enthusiast, libertarian and red seal chef. Glenn made many friends in his years as the Chef at High Crest Place in the 90s. For the last 25 years he worked at Sam’s restaurant where he was treated like family by the late George Kouyas and his children.
Glenn was artistic in his work and play. He said the woods were his church. He tied flies for fishing and canoed. He was a corporal in the militia and prided himself on having the spirit of both a hippie and a soldier. His superpower was food preparation of any kind which he performed with precision and mastery.
Glenn had two sons, Andrew Mark (Rosalind) and Dylan Frank (Taylor). He named Andrew after his lifelong friend, Rev. Mark Kingsbury. He had four grandchildren: Willa Mae, Frankie, Carrie, and Cassidy. Last month he travelled to Lower Sackville for an overnight visit, bringing three-year-old Carrie a BB gun.
Glenn lived about two blocks from where he grew up - Stellar Street - and a few more from where his parents, Frank and Andrea, and siblings Jamie (Lisa), Danny (Tonya), and Shannon live. He was predeceased by his grandparents John and Mae MacGillivray.
Everybody who knew Glenn liked him, he was a contemplative; soft spoken, humble, and compassionate. He held a close and longtime bond with his three cats. He died suddenly on a beautiful autumn day, the sun was shining, the sky was blue, and many vibrant leaves were still on the trees. Glenn was seated in his truck in front of his apartment waiting for his sister to help him run an errand. A valve in his heart gave away - he died painlessly, in a fraction of a second. Glenn was 58.
