SUTHERLAND, Dr. JOHN WILLIAM (BILL) HENDERSON–Fort Lauderdale, Florida and formerly of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia died peacefully after a lengthy illness in Fort Lauderdale on October 11, 2024. Born in New Glasgow April 27, 1946, he was the son of the late J.W.H. “Bill” Sutherland and E. Jean (MacDonald) (Sutherland) Anderson. He is survived by his partner, Khalid, Fort Lauderdale, his brother George (Lillian) Sutherland, Little Harbour, N.S., sister, Brenda (Dr. Paul) MacDonald, Roy’s Island, N.S., nephews Dr. Mark Sutherland, Halifax, N.S. and Michael (Erin) Sutherland, Fall River, N.S., niece Jill (Brian) Easson, Berwick, N.S and grand nephews and nieces Ben and Lila Sutherland and Morgan, James and Claire Easson. Bill grew up in New Glasgow. He graduated in Science with the University Gold Medal in chemistry from Dalhousie University in 1967 and with his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1972. He resided in Rochester, NY working in research for Kodak and finished his career with Johnson & Johnson. Bill retired to Fort Lauderdale where he continued his love for scuba diving, photography, especially underwater photography, classical music, cooking and entertaining. He spent his summers at his cottage at Sinclair Island, NS, enjoying some of the best views and sunsets on the Northumberland Strait. No visitation by request. There will be a private family graveside service at a later date.
