Obituary of Dorothy Etta Fraser

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Etta Fraser. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on September 20, 2024 at the age of 94. Dorothy was born on Feb. 19, 1930 in Belmont, NS to parents Gerald and Ida (Gaskill) Green. Her early childhood years were spent in Halifax before moving to Liscombe and that’s where her heart remained. Even after putting down roots in Riverton, Dorothy spent many summers with Stanford in their beloved trailer located on the property of her family home. They loved when family and friends came to visit so they could share their love of the nearby wharf, ocean and rocky beaches. Dorothy lived for many years in her home in Riverton, built to her specifications by her husband Stanford. There they raised their 3 children. She had a knack for painting and decorating, always ensuring her home was a cozy sanctuary. She and her family spent many hours in this home, snug and warm in rocking chairs around the fire. Much to Dorothy’s pleasure and Stanford’s dismay every closet in the house was filled with her treasured shoes and clothes. Dorothy never turned down a shopping trip and was always delighted when she found a skirt she could dance in. Dorothy loved to be active and busy. No matter the season, she loved to be outdoors. In the winter, Dorothy could be found taking skidoo trips with Stanford, cross country skiing or skating with her racers on a pond or in a rink. In the summer, Dorothy loved to garden. She took so much pride in her incredible flower gardens and had a true green thumb. Music and dancing were two of Dorothy’s greatest loves. She enjoyed attending old time dances and cutting a rug with many great friends. While at home, Dorothy loved listening to her favorite music. She could even strum a few chords on the guitar and play a few notes on the piano. Dorothy’s first priority was always her family. She loved them dearly and put them first, above all others. Her three children, Joe, John and Vicky, as well as her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren could always count on her for unconditional love. Dorothy passed on her love of family, music and gardening to her children, and they will carry on her legacy by sharing in those passions. So many of Dorothy’s 94 years were vibrant and active but as she aged, her vision began to fade as she suffered from macular degeneration and glaucoma. As her vision became more impaired, she struggled with the loss of being able to participate in many of her favorite activities but she carried on with dignity and strength. Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Leonard Baker, husband Stanford Fraser, brother Vern Green, sister Catherine Rudolph and son-in-law Harold Cameron. She is survived by her three children Joe (Gail) Baker, John (Shelley) Fraser, Vicky Cameron. Grandchildren Sarah (Chris), Shawn (Katie), Ashley (Josh), Robert, Dillon (Christina), Nicholas (Laura) as well as her three great-grandchildren Jet, Fin and Bridgette. Dorothy also leaves behind her cherished Rudolph nieces and nephews and chosen daughters Reta Marcotte, Marolyn Avery and Polly Peet. There will be no visitation at her request. We would like to thank the staff at Ivey’s Terrace and the staff and many friends she made at Havenbrook Manor for the loving care and compassion shown to Dorothy during her time of residence there. “We bet it’s so nice up in heaven since you arrived, We Hope your dancing in the Sky” We love you Mom
