Obituary of Francis Edward McKay

November 1, 1964 – May 24, 2024 It is with broken hearts that we announce Francis Edward McKay, 59 of New Glasgow, N.S. passed away peacefully in palliative care alongside his family on May 24, 2024. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton to Laughlin (Lauchie) and Lee Marie (Johnstone) McKay. Pre-deceased by both parents and brother Shawn McKay. Loving father of Jensen (Rieley), and Keigan (Vanessa). Beloved Papi to Lileigh, Evelynn, Laughlin, and Silas. Also survived by numerous aunts (special bond and connection with Aunt Bonnie Mulvihill and Hugh Ward Johnstone who loved him as their own), uncles, cousins, and friends in Ontario who all will miss his hour(s)-long phone calls. Francis attended NGJHS and after graduation decided he was going to attend teachers college. Eventually, he made a life change and obtained a job with MT&T (Bell Aliant) and was an employee for 30 years. He finally retired in 2017 after being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. Although he retired from the company, he carried his excellent customer service techniques throughout the rest of his life and used them almost daily. From a young age, he had a passion for music and loved to dance. He enjoyed playing his favourite game of all time (The Legend of Zelda) which he later on in life, passed these passions on to his two children. He loved spending the majority of his time at his daughter’s house enjoying her home-cooked meals and spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow. He took great pride in his grandbabies and thought the absolute world of them, one of his dreams was to see them graduate post-secondary school. A heartfelt thanks to the wonderful care team at Aberdeen Hospital, especially nurse Cindy for your incredible care and comfort throughout Francis’s stay in palliative care. Cremation has taken place. A private family graveside burial will take place at the Our Lady Of Lourdes Parish. A private family Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to the H.W. Angus funeral home in New Glasgow.
