Obituary of Helen Gloria Christie

Helen Gloria (Mac Lean) Christie (Dec.10,1938-April 30,2024). Helen was the beloved “Mum” to her daughter Anja and Son-in-law Dean Johnson (California/Nova Scotia) as well as” Pet Nana Scotia” to their pets. Helen was married to the late John R. Christie. She was the last remaining child of Betty (Prime) Mac Lean and James Mac Lean. There was a family of five children; Earl, Melford, Faith, Beth and Helen the youngest. All of them descendants of the Hector Ship Nova Scotia. Along with her daughter and son-in- law, she is survived by Nieces and Nephews who she was proud of. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Stan Christie and David-Wayne Christie who she called friends. Helen cherished many deep friendships over her lifetime and loved to have a chat with several cups of tea. After graduating from college, Helen worked as a minister for about forty years in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, mainly serving in her Pictou County community. She was one of the founding members of Christian Fellowship Church, New Glasgow. When she entered this work, women in ministry were not readily accepted but she seemed to take that in stride while in high heels. She often explained that she saw it as a privilege to sit with people in their homes and at their hospital beds. She spoke in churches and functions around Eastern Canada and led Living Christmas Tree choir performances in New Glasgow. Her family will always be grateful for the loving care she received as a resident of the Maritime IOOF Home in Pictou NS. She was very content there and thought of the staff as part of her family. A special thank you to her friend and private caregiver, Sandra Siddall and much thanks to Rev. Caroline Barclay who visited Helen regularly and sang hymns to her. She left for her heavenly home peacefully with loved ones at her side. Melissa Davidson and Lisa Aikens were there to support us at her passing which we are extremely grateful for. Visitation will be held at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow Friday May 3, 2024 from 6-8 pm. Celebration of Life will be held at Christian Fellowship Church New Glasgow May 4 at 2 pm with Pastor Jeff MacDougall and Pastor Caroline Barclay presiding. Burial will be held at a later date.
