Obituary of Donald Rankin Coady

Priestville – Donald Rankin” Ranny” Coady, 77, of Priestville, passed away peacefully at home April 29th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John Joseph “Jack “, and Edith May (Stallard) Coady. Ranny was a welder by trade, and well known for his tireless work ethic and exceptional skills. He retired from Trenton Works after 30+ years of employment. Ranny was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, especially being outdoors. He loved fishing, foraging for chanterelle mushrooms in the woods, and taking long, scenic drives down old country roads. Ranny treasured his family, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was also an animal lover and thoroughly enjoyed spoiling his beloved pets. Music was another important part of his life. An avid guitar player with deep musical roots, Ranny had a passion for classic country music. In addition to his outdoor hobbies and music, Ranny enjoyed cooking and baking. Family and neighbors always looked forward to his delicious homemade candy apples that he would make every Halloween. He was kindhearted, generous, and took pleasure in making others happy. Ranny will be sadly missed by all who knew him, survived by his loving wife, Velvet Dwyer-Coady; Sons: Donnie (Louise) Coady, Bedford; Randy Dwyer, Priestville; Daughters: Sharon (Nick) Rushton, Westville; Tammy Greencorn, New Glasgow; Grandchildren: Adara (Anthony), Drayton Valley; Cody, Drayton Valley; Marissa, New Glasgow; Ryan, Bedford, Daniel, Bedford; Hayley (Corey), Chloe(Marc), Aiden, and Jack, all of New Glasgow; Great-grandchildren: Aurora “Rory", Addison, Adele, Lenox, and Stella; Sisters: Elsie MacDonald, Westville; Mary (Johnny) MacDonald, Priestville; Helen (John) Chapman, Trenton; Marcella “Nan" MacDonald, MacLellan’s Brook; Corrine Brow, MacLellan’s Brook; Pearl (Raymond) Priest, Trenton; Brothers: William, Glen Haven; Gary (Doreen), Westville; Tommy (Louise), Springville; Brothers in law: John (Sandra) Dwyer, Riverton, and David (Gail) Dwyer, Chance Harbour; Sisters in law: Marina Coady, MacPhersons Mills; Cathy Coady, Stellarton; Joanna Coady, Westville; Sheila Coady, Priestville; Teresa (Gary) Mackenzie, New Glasgow; Caroline (Lee Hoare) Pettipas, Priestville; and Elsie Stewart, PEI; several nieces and nephews; special fur babies: Milo, Meeko, and Kitty Girl.; and life-long friend, John MacDonald Besides his parents, Ranny was predeceased by sister, Margaret "Mickey" Michaud; brothers, James in infancy, John “Peewee", Robert, George, and Ross Coady; Brothers in law: Delbert Michaud, Clifford MacDonald, Gerry Jamieson, Calvin MacDonald, Leo Pettipas, Jim, and Milton Stewart; Sisters in law: Debbie, and Pauline Coady, Mother-in-law, Doris Dwyer, Father-in-law, Frank Dwyer, special person, Kaye Ross, who was also like a second mother to him, special fur babies; Monty, Angel, Rusty, Rascal, Piper, and Jennex. Ranny's family would like to thank the Palliative Care unit staff at the Aberdeen Hospital, the VON nurses, , and all of the specialists that cared for Ranny in New Glasgow, Halifax, and Truro over the last two years, and H.W angus funeral home for their kindness and compassion at this difficult time. In Ranny's memory, donations may be made to the SPCA, or to the Aberdeen Health Foundation Palliative Care Unit Endowment. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 5th from 1- 4 p.m. at the New Glasgow Fire Department, 188 Dalhousie Street, New Glasgow, N.S, B2H 4M3. Please feel free to bring any pictures or stories of Ranny that you would like to share with the family. A private graveside service will be held at a later date, in the Priestville Cemetery.
