“Donnie” as I remember him, was always kind and gentle. His was always the first smile to greet me for many years when I arrived to lead the music for the weekly service at Bridgevllle United Church. I know he will be remembered fondly and be greatlly missed by many. My deepest condolences go out to Evelyn and Arlene and family.

I was blessed to meet “Donnie” in 1980 when I was 10 years old. I was officially hired on the farm to help weed the garden and if responsible enough, may get a chance to push the lawn mower! I was with them until they retired and sold the farm. I tell everyone that he and Evelyn were like second parents to me and we developed a bond that I will cherish forever. Donnie was always interested in what was happening in my world and he loved to hear the stories and gossip that was happening in our community!
Not being raised on a farm, Donny and Ev introduced me to agriculture and convinced me to join 4-H. They had actually trusted me enough to show heifers and take a trip all the way to Yarmouth for 4-H days with their animal! The Heifer was named Anna and the trip seemed like I was 1000 miles away.
Donnie’s favorite saying was “OK Mark, you may as well bugger off” when the work was done. That was his polite way of saying I was off the clock! I would always look forward to returning the next day and the highlight of the year would be when we put the last bale in the barn - he would treat us to Alice’s Pizza and Pepsi from New Glasgow. Great memories.
It is because of Donnie’s mentoring that I stayed with Agriculture as a career and have never looked back.
He lived a great life, gave back to his community, loved his family, and ended the race well. Rest in Peace Donnie and thanks for the great memories.

I will remember Donnie with a smile on his face, ringing the bell at Bridgeville United. If I brought a friend along, he would let her ring it too! He was so supportive of me as a young organist. We were often the first ones to arrive in the morning and always found something to talk about. My deepest condolences to his family.

One of my most cherished memories of grampie was when I wouldn't finish eating my dinner and he would sneak to the basement and bring me into the frozen cookie stash so I would still get cookies for dessert - maybe this is why I'm obsessed with frozen cookies still to this day, but every single time I take out a cookie I think of grampie. Sorry Gram I was the cookie thief ;)

How sad it is to be losing Donnie from this world, but what a long and full life he has lived. Donnie and Evelyn were life long friends of our mom and dad. I have happy memories of visiting their beautiful farm and visits with them both during the many years that followed. Donnie was kind and caring, always interested in the person he was talking to. His gentle, loving, accepting nature drew you in. He received the love he gave and will be greatly missed by all. What beautiful memories he leaves for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Now it is time for his own reunion with loved ones who have gone before him. There will, however, be an emptiness in all of our hearts. A gem of a man he was.

When Dennis and I first met Donnie it was such a great visit. He certainly loved meeting new people, and finding out about your roots. It was a visit I truly loved. In other visits he always remembered who you were, and where you came from. Most days I have to really think about people's names, but he never forgot. Such a gentleman. Our deepest sympathy
