I was so sad to hear of Karl's passing. I remember getting in touch with him many years ago about my struggles to manage HST at Sugar Moon Farm. He offered to help, took one look at our books and determined that we needed a LOT of help. He taught me one-on-one how to use Simply Accounting, how to do our own books, how to prepare projections and statements for lenders and the art of dry humour. He would typically reply to my lengthy emails with simply "K". I have to say I loved Karl - he was a kind and generous man and we will always appreciate everything he did for us. Our deepest condolences to Deb and family.

I just want to express to the family my shock and condolences on the passing of Karl. I was away when it happened and just saw the death notice yesterday . Debbie and family, words can’t replace Karl but I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed being around Karl as a well respected colleague and friend. Over the years we shared Many conversations about business ventures and how much we loved working with the students. Karl was always willing to help if I had a student who was struggling with accounting or just needed a positive conversation.
Karl was a supportive colleague and good friend. I know he will be deeply missed by his family and those of us who worked with him for many years.

I was so sorry to learn of Karl’s passing today. I worked at the NSCC Truro Campus for almost 30 years in the Business Office. I took a night course from Karl on Spreadsheets and he was an awesome instructor. He was very patient with all of us and we all excelled in his class. He was so great with his students and always wanted them all to succeed. He was just the nicest man and treated everyone with such kindness. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

To many in the Estonian community in Nova Scotia Karl and Debbie were gracious hosts when they invited us to gather at their beautiful home in Lorne to celebrate Estonian Independence Day. Karl in particular was anxious to replacate the wonderful atmosphere created by his parents who often cebrated various important Estonian holidays at their home with Estonian-Canadian friends. In later years Karl and his sisters would join their parents at the oakwood House on Lake Banook in Dartmouth for Independence Day celebrations. Karl will be greatly missed by all who knew him as a quiet and kind friend and family man and a credit to his community.

My condolences to Debbie and family. I have worked with Karl at Truro for 22 years and have always admired his chill demeanor and his sense of humour.
In the early 2000's, Karl and I tried to support a student band. I was a stand-in drummer, and Karl was the band manager. It was a short lived experience, but we laughed about those days for years.
Karl left us way too soon, but in his 66 years among us, his impact on the lives of others is immeasurable.

Karl was my brother-in-law, but in all honesty, he was more than that to me. He was a dear friend, someone I could rely on when I most needed advice, a reasoning voice when I was being unreasonable, and a calming voice when I was sad or upset. I always felt better after talking to him. I will miss my "Karlie". Rest in peace, you sure deserve it. I will cherish all the memories. Xo

I have so many memories of my smart, witty, lovely brother, they would fill a library. Sometimes i wonder how he survived childhood, tormented by two older sisters. I recall the day we made him try out our homemade stilts. He fell and fractured his arm. We told him we would never play with him again if he told our parents. Eventually he did and despite the threat, we continued to play together. As a child, he was asked what he wanted to be when he grew up. His reply: I want to be like Uncle John (or Onu Jaan as he was to us). Uncle John was a kind, hard working man who bounced back from life's unfairness without any residual bitterness. "That's the life" he would say. My brother grew up to be like Uncle John. I will miss him a lot as will Debbie and the rest of the family - but that's the life.
