Kenneth James Barrie, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 22nd, 2024, at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving family at Aberdeen Hospital. Kenneth, affectionately known as Ken, was born and raised in Montreal on May 28th, 1943, to proud parents; Ada and Alan.
Ken's life was marked by service and dedication. He proudly served his country in the Canadian Navy and later moved to Nova Scotia in 1977, where he embarked on a fulfilling career with Sobeys, dedicating 25 years to the company.
Ken's impact extended far beyond his professional endeavors. He was a pillar in his community, known for his boundless enthusiasm and infectious humor. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Ken would attest to his larger-than-life personality and quirky sense of humor, which never failed to bring joy to those around him.
Ken's passion for sports, particularly hockey, was evident to all who knew him. He was deeply involved in minor hockey, serving as president of Hockey Nova Scotia. A devoted Montreal Canadiens fan, Ken also shared his love for sports with his children and grandchildren, coaching baseball and soccer teams with unwavering dedication.
Ken leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his beloved wife, Hilda, brother Ross Barrie, his children Alan (Michelle), Sean (Kathy), Chris (Kara), Kelly (Joe), his grandchildren Pamela (Robert), Alysha, Emily, Clark, Matthew, Jeremy, Jacob, Haley (Alex), Gabrielle, Jess, great-grandchildren; Hudson and Nolan, along with many nieces and nephews.
Ken's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched. His laughter, kindness, and love will be remembered and cherished forever.
A celebration of Ken's life will be held on Wednesday, March 27th in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home from 1-4 pm where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and share stories of his remarkable life. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 28th in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hockey Nova Scotia or a sports organization of your choice.
Ken will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May he rest in peace, knowing that he was dearly loved and will always be remembered with fondness and gratitude.
