Mary “Evelyn” Grant, Lesterdale, NS

Mary “Evelyn” Grant, of Lesterdale, Guysborough County, NS passed away on March 17, 2024 in Milford Haven Home for Special Care in Guysborough.

Evelyn was born Jan. 26, 1935 in New Glasgow and was a daughter of the late Alton and Violet (Fraser) Fraser.

Evelyn grew up in Brookville, NS and later graduated from Bridgetown High School in 1953. She continued her education by taking nursing at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax and practiced nursing in both Canada and the United States.

Evelyn later returned home and attended Dalhousie University, became a Public Health Nurse and worked in the Halifax area for many years. She later went on to be Administrator of Melville Lodge from where she retired.

During her working years she resided in Spryfield and following her retirement moved to Guysborough Intervale “Lesterdale”. Evelyn and John enjoyed many years as an active part of the community and made many dear friends. She was also a member of the Guysborough Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter Janice Grant, Halifax; sister Helen Robertson, Riverton; brother Bill (Marie) Fraser, Riverton. She was a loving “Aunt Ebbie” to nieces Tracey (Yuri) Power, Lynn (Glenn) Fraser; Susan (Matthew) Rodgers, Pam (Robbie) Francis, nephews Stephen (Amber) Robertson and Blair (Nicole) Robertson, several great nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband John Grant in February 2023.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm on Tuesday, March 26 in Wesley United Church, 32 Queen St., Guysborough, NS. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Heather Manuel officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex, 60 Green St., Guysborough. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery Guysborough Intervale.

Donations in memory of Evelyn may be made to Guysborough Hospital Auxiliary.
