We send our heartfelt condolences to the Heighten and McCormick families at the sad time.
Growing up on Brookside Ave. there was always room on the McCormick couch for one more neighborhood kid to watch TV on a Saturday night. Tea and Mrs. McCormick's biscuits were usually included.
Joyce continued to welcome one and all into her life through the years. She will be missed.

I look back with great fondness, working with my teaching partner at PiCCoLA. Joyce was both a mentor and an inspiration to me. I looked forward to our daily chats at work - seeing Joyce's smile, her sense of humour and learning all about what was new in the lives of Freddie and their girls.
Joyce was a kind, caring person and I will miss her. Sending my sympathy to the Heighton family.

Owen, sorry to hear of Joyce's passing. Seems the clans are getting smaller all the time. Joyce was a couple of years younger than Ellen. Joyce being a teacher touched a lot of folks as did Duff.
I hope you, Freddie and the rest of the family gain strength remembering all the good times you shared over the years. I remember working for Freddie at Sobeys on back street I suppose I got the job because of Joyce.

Joyce was like a second mother to me during my 5 years at Dalhousie as Shauna and I became fast friends when we met in residence at Carleton University in 1986 a few years before going to Dalhousie.
I was always welcome and the Heightons treated me like family. I spent many many weekends of fun at Joyce and Freddie’s as they became my surrogate family while on the East Coast. We ate amazing food and had tons of fun at their place.
Joyce always had amazing advice for us as we studied to be teachers.
She will be sadly missed and I am heartbroken for the family.
May she rest in peace.
Thank you for making me feel like part of your wonderful family.
Love,

It is with much sadness that we learn about the passing of our cousin Joyce ( eldest cousin of the Jack McCarron clan)! I have so many memories of Joyce and family visiting in Antigonish. She was always so fond of her extended family and would visit often. Joyce had such a peaceful demeanour and interest in all of us. I often met her wandering around the shops in NG with her sister Alice! Always having the time to catch up with the Antigonish news!
My condolences to Fred and all of her family. May you always enjoy the richness of your memories as your wife, mom , sister and grandmother. Regrettably I will not be able to attend Joyce’s celebration of life.
Most sincerely, cousin Lynn MacGillivray Connolly
